Sweet Magnolias Season 4 is almost here, and though Season 3 ended with everyone in more or less a good place, it’s now time to return to Serenity and once again get invested in the lives of the Magnolias—and the new generation. With that, of course, comes a lot of wishing and hoping about what we want to see in the lives of these characters, all of them. Because Serenity is not just Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue, though at times it feels like it is.
Every time a show gets into Season 4, that means we’ve invested enough time in it that we have a lot of ideas of where it could go, and more importantly, where we want it to go. So, without further ado, here are 5 things we want from Season 4 of Sweet Magnolias, and truly, they don’t feel like too much to ask.
An Engagement for Maddie and Cal—& Maybe Even a Wedding?

Maddie brought it up in the trailer, so now we have to. But okay, we can start with the engagement and then we’ll worry about the wedding. Because even though Maddie and Cal had some rough times in Season 3, it does feel like, with that behind them, they are at the perfect place to take the new leap forward. Particularly if the season starts with a bit of a time jump, as we expect.
And hey, if we get the engagement early in the season, we can even hope for a wedding to close it out! Why not? We already did it last season.
Helen and Erik Back Together

We’re not asking for anything big here, just for these two to find their way back together. We’ve already had to put up with significant others that are just a stepping stone towards what we know is the happily ever after for both Helen and Erik and if we’re being honest, we’re tired. It’s time for them to just be together.
Together and happy! Sure, the first time was a bit rough. They both had baggage they hadn’t fully let go of. But it feels like they’re now in a better place to try again and really appreciate what they had. And also, every other love interest they have ever had just feels… temporary. So, what gives?
Ty and Annie Becoming a Couple

Talk about waiting forever! And we know, we know, they are just kids. But still, it has been forever and a day. We’ve known they were going to end up together since Season 1, and it could be argued they’ve known for a while too. So, it’s time Sweet Magnolias finally takes that leap.
After, there can be other issues. There surely will be. They’re young, and they have their own dreams which will take them away from each other. That’s going to be hard to navigate. But can we start with getting them together first and then we worry about the other stuff?
For Isaac to Get to Know His Siblings as Just That—Siblings

Look, the how is… complicated. But Isaac has family in Serenity, and it would be nice if he got to engage with that family as just that, family. It might take a little bit of an adjustment, but I think Maddie’s kids would welcome him with open arms. And it’s probably time Noreen finds out Bex is Isaac’s half-sister.
And Isaac has another family, yes. But there’s never too much family, and considering that he now calls Serenity his home, well… he can start practicing the big brother thing. He’d be good at it.
The Men of Serenity to Get Their Own Storylines

Sure, this show is first and foremost about Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue. But Cal, Erik, and Ronnie, especially, need their own storylines. We want to love these couples because they feel like fully realized relationships, and the only way for that to be true is for the men to also feel like truly fleshed-out characters.
We’re not asking for the show to turn the spotlight to them or anything like it. But they can share it, from time to time. We won’t complain about that.
Sweet Magnolias Season 4 will be available to stream on Netflix on February 6.
