The Suits universe expands with Suits LA, a new spin-off that will move the legal action from New York to Los Angeles. The show follows the story of Ted Black, played by Stephen Amell, a former federal prosecutor from New York who reinvents himself as an entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles. Ted starts the Black Lane Law firm alongside his partner Stuart, where he represents influential Hollywood clients. The series will explore the professional and personal challenges Ted faces as he unravels the mysteries of his past that led him to leave New York.
Aside from Amell, the main cast also includes Josh McDermitt as Stuart Lane, Ted’s partner and close friend; Lex Scott Davis as Erica Rollins, an ambitious lawyer within the firm; and Bryan Greenberg as Rick Dodsen, a young lawyer on the rise. Troy Winbush and Alice Lee round out the cast in recurring roles.
Although Suits LA introduces new characters and settings, it maintains ties to the original series. Gabriel Macht has been confirmed to reprise his iconic role as Harvey Specter for a three-episode arc…although we don’t know when. What we do know is that he will have some sort of tie-in with Ted Black. There is also speculation about possible cameos from other members of the original cast, although no additional details have been revealed.
Suits creator Aaron Korsh is returning as showrunner for the spin-off. The series was initially conceived as a drama about agents in Hollywood, but following the resurgence of the popularity of Suits on Netflix in 2023, the project was adapted into the existing universe. Production began in Vancouver and later moved to Los Angeles to better capture the essence of the city.
With the backing of the original creative team and a fresh, recognizable cast, Suits LA aims to deliver the legal drama and character dynamics that won so many fans over to the original series. Will it succeed?
