Netflix will soon premiere the highly anticipated political thriller miniseries Zero Day. The show stars Robert De Niro in what will be his first leading role on television! The series consists of six episodes to explore a world of conspiracies, cyberattacks, and disinformation, with an A-list cast and a creative team led by Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim, and Michael S. Schmidt. The direction is in charge of Lesli Linka Glatter.
In Zero Day, De Niro plays George Mullen, a former president of the United States who is called to lead the Zero Day Commission after a devastating cyberattack that has left thousands dead and plunged the country into chaos. As he investigates the origin of the attack, Mullen has to deal with his own demons while trying to find out the truth, which promises to keep us on the edge of our seats.
The cast features Angela Bassett — who we know and love from 9-1-1 — as acting president Evelyn Mitchell, who must manage the crisis while facing her own political challenges. Lizzy Caplan plays Alexandra Mullen, the former president’s daughter; Jesse Plemons plays Roger Carlson, a former Mullen aide; Joan Allen is Sheila Mullen, the former first lady, and Connie Britton — who like Basset, was also in 9-1-1, though only in Season 1 — plays Valerie Whitesell, Mullen’s former press chief. Other notable actors in the cast include Dan Stevens, Matthew Modine, Bill Camp, and Clark Gregg.
Zero Day is going to be our new obsession! We know it. And not just because of its cast, as the show tackles misinformation and power struggles, which is definitely the order of the day. We’re excited!
