Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is back and well, it was a lot of episodes at once. That being said though, I am glad to dive right back in. How Billie and the Russo’s are – well, definitely been wondering how that is going.
If you aren’t familiar with the show, The Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is about, “after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons. But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his door… and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World.”
The great thing about the show is that though it pays homage to the original it’s completely unique. Yes, it’s a show for kids, but I end up watching for the nostalgia and its cast.
Disney has done a great job making sure that the show has a vibe all its own. Whereas the show does have one of the original cast members – David Henrie – it doesn’t feel necessarily like you need to concentrate on them. You see the whole story and it’s a story that is just fun.
And fun is a great thing.
CHAOS QUEEENS
Billie likes her life in the mortal world, even if she doesn’t want to say it. She’s definitely used to the wizard world. Watching the show, one needs to remember that she’s a kid, and fitting in means everything to kids. For Billie, balancing the two worlds is a learning lesson.
Billie gets a Facetime call from her bestie in the wizard world. Narissa was Billie’s other half and there was no one that got Billie like she did. Except in the wizarding world, Narissa and Billie caused trouble – ALL THE TIME.
Bringing Narissa to the mortal world was meant to be fun. However, “fun” is subjective. Billie has changed and doesn’t want to accept it, but she can’t deny it. As Billie feels Narissa’s pressure to be who she was once, the more that who she is now comes out.
At a party that Billie throws, Narissa keeps commenting about how everyone is boring. Billie doesn’t like hearing that, but she’s not gonna change back to who she was. All of this has brought out a side to Billie that she didn’t know she had. It was a side when she didn’t need to be the Chaos Queen.
GNOME NO PLEASE
Milo Russo is a character – one that is adorable to watch. He’s comedic and personable, and when he steps onto the screen, you just know it’s going to be a good time.
He has a school project where he has to grow a Sunflower. He keeps killing the sunflower, but love that he doesn’t give up. He wants to beat his nemesis – who keeps growing a bigger one than he does. He doesn’t want to hear what she has to say, but also the competition gene is something he definitely got.
Narissa sees the plant and Milo asks her if she can save it. She can – but conjuring a gnome.
I am terrified of those little gnome statues, so seeing one made, wasn’t a highlight. But it is kinda a testament to asking questions. Milo isn’t one to ask any. I love the innocence of a kid when they are just willing to jump right in.
Magic has changed the Russo household and I do believe for the better. Milo’s parents may have been able to get him out of the gnome’s body, but seeing the gnome take over this body was endearing. Why? Max Matenko, who stars as Milo, is a comedic genius. He uses not only his wit but also his body and soul – he’s a gifted actor.
GARAGE
I think we all need to give love to Justin Russo. He’s always been an annoying character, but also one that we can’t help but laugh at. David Henrie doesn’t ever hold back. He tosses himself in all the characters that he plays.
Justin Russo has always been a stickler for the rules. He’s just never been someone that I would have thought would be like Monica from friends. I should have. She’s the only one that I have ever seen get so excited over an attachment for a vacuum.
I love the way that Justin and his wife Giada toss themselves into everything. Especially anything that has to do with keeping their kids safe.
The lesson of this episode is that changing and growing isn’t a bad thing, and no matter what people say – you are good enough the way that you are.
Love that this show embraces that.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Billie going in that phone booth-looking thing about Wonder – I thought that was sweet.
- I love Billies wardrobe
- Justin and his cleaning – it’s a strange thing that he likes cleaning so much (I say as I stare at the mess I need to clean)
- Friendships are ever-changing. I love that this show shows that.
- Roman having a crush on the Pixie was adorable. First crushes are the best
