After the events of Grosse Pointe Garden Society “Pollination,” tensions are continuing to rise between Brett and Alice.
For those who need a reminder, in 1×05, Brett made it clear to Alice that he needed space. He’d come to realize that she’d crossed the line of friendship into emotionally dumping everything on him. This comes after Alice’s husband also made it clear that her relationship with Brett made her uncomfortable. And Alice, clearly hurt and not thinking she’s done anything wrong, pushes back before accepting what her best friend has asked of her.
In an exclusive clip for Sunday’s (March 30) all-new episode, we get to see the continuation of that friendship breakup (?). In the scene, Birdie, Catherine, and Brett are talking about the birthday party of Brett’s son while gardening, per usual. Brett laments how birthdays parties have changed from simple fun to rides to space. That’s where Alice comes in.
Alice asks for a tool from the group. And when Brett offers the tool needed, Alice responds with an icy, “Haven’t I taken enough from you?” Catherine and Birdie stay silent between them, probably wishing they could disappear. And Brett puts on a smile and says, “I’m always here for you Alice.” Clearly these two friends need to talk and reassess what they want and need from each other before their relationship is completely destroyed.
