If you get us started on The Groomsmen Trilogy, most likely you’ll never get us to shut up about it. The second movie in the trilogy just won a GLAAD award this past week. TBH, we’ve been a mess of tears just because if there is anyone that deserves this award it’s Jonathan Bennett.
A lot of people remember Jonathan from Mean Girls, but for this writer it’s not the first thing that springs to my mind. Hallmark movies do.
The trilogy is centered around three best friends, who support each other on the biggest days of their lives. In the movies B.J. Britt stars as Pete, who is a “kind-hearted pediatrician with a penchant for planning.” We also have Jonathan Bennett as Danny, a “baseball coach with a heart of gold.” Tyler Hynes stars as Jackson, who is a “stylish and charming social media agent.”
The second movie, The Groomsmen: Second Chances, is led by Jonathan Bennett. It’s one of our favorite tropes – best friends falling in love.
The actor posted about the win on his social media and honestly, we’re proud of him and opening his heart to be able to tell us all just how much this matters. These movies matter.
He wrote, “WE WON! I knew The Groomsmen movies were special, and I knew we were creating a story of love and friendship that was powerful, and to be recognized for telling these stories is the best feeling in the world. I’m so proud of The Groomsmen team for telling the story of Danny, Pete, and Jackson with such love and care. Congratulations to everyone involved and thank @hallmarkchannel for making LGBTQ stories a priority and to @glaad for taking care of our community’s stories! 8th nomination for me, 7th nomination for Hallmark and we got a win!!!!”
Bennetts co-star Tyler Hynes, also posted about the win – celebrating his bestie, “3 years later we did what we set out to do… To shine a light that might burn as bright as you @jonathandbennett.”
“A journey started with our producing partner and friend @firstryansaid and made complete with our 3rd groomsman @iambjbritt 👑.” he continued, “The evening was nothing short of inspirational. Very grateful to be in the company of such wonderful human beings. Thank you @glaad and @hallmarkchannel.”
And finished his post with, “I’ll let Jonathan speak for himself: I’m so proud of The Groomsmen team for telling the story of Danny, Pete, and Jackson with such love and care. Congratulations to everyone involved and thank @hallmarkchannel for making LGBTQ+ stories a priority and to @glaad for taking care of our community’s stories!”
These two (and BJ, who had to love gummy bears, as we saw in Tylers post) are so supportive of each other.
And that’s a beautiful thing.
Bennett took to the comments to thank Tyler for being involved, “None of this would have happened without you Ty. And with out @firstryansaid and @iambjbritt and @ronoliver being such champions for this story. I remember sitting on your balcony shirtless in Vancouver, telling you this crazy idea I had to do The Hangover for Hallmark, where we had 3 best friends, one of them happened to be gay, and we tell the story of their friendship and watch them navigate their love lives together. You said, “hold on let me put my shirt back on.” Then you said, “Brother I wanna do this with you on one condition. We make your wedding and your story line the most epic and beautiful of all the movies because your love story deserves the big celebration of these movies.” Incase anyone is wondering what being an ally looks like, Tyler Hynes is it. Period. (The part of being shirtless may or may not have been true but in my mind it was real)”

Congratulations on winning Outstanding Film – Streaming or TV at the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards. It’s so well deserved. All three movies in The Groomsmen Trilogy are streaming on Hallmark+.
