What starts as fanfare turns into fright in the official trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Marvel Studios released a new look at its summer film on Thursday (April 17) morning, also dropping the official poster in conjunction with the video.
Expanding on the teaser trailer, the official trailer picks up with the hopeful tone through a montage of cheers, thanks and support from the Fantastic Four’s adoring fans in New York. It was a nice way to segue into good news for Marvel’s first couple, but the optimism could only last so long when Galactus and the apocalypse are near.
Here are our picks for the top standout moments from The Fantastic Four: First Steps official trailer:
Sue Storm’s Pregnancy Reveal

As many fans have suspected, the latest trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps confirms that Sue Storm is pregnant, and it does so in a way that perfectly highlights the first family’s dynamic.
The teaser trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps established that the group enjoys dinner together every Sunday at 7 p.m. The official trailer shows Johnny Storm confronting his sister and brother-in-law about them being late for that Sunday’s dinner. Sue is taken aback by the accusation, not thinking of their tardiness for mealtime but rather her period being late. But Johnny, ready to munch on cereal from a box with Human Torch art, is just talking about dinner. Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), however, catches on and asks Sue if she’s pregnant.
The scene is a creative way to share the news and does a great job of establishing their personalities and interactions.
Silver Surfer Rides Into the MCU with a Daunting Message

The sight of the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) may have been reason for fans to get excited, but that’s certainly not the case for the Fantastic Four themselves. In the official trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Silver Surfer delivers news to the heroes about their world ending. Or in more formal fashion befitting of the classic Fantastic Four character: “Your planet is now marked for death.”
Though the herald of Galactus is featured throughout the trailer, no Silver Surfer moment is more of a standout than the death message. It offers more insight into the film’s conflict, leading to glimpses of guilt-ridden Reed Richards, and how it may tie back to the greater MCU leading into Avengers: Doomsday.
‘Flame On!’ The Fantastic Four Power Up

Joseph Quinn’s Johnny doesn’t actually say the Human Torch’s catchphrase, but seeing all four of the heroes use their powers was undoubtedly one of the best parts of The Fantastic Four: First Steps official trailer.
Marvel has already shown Sue, Johnny and, of course, Ben using their powers. But this is the first time we’re seeing Pedro Pascal’s Reed use his elasticity powers. The stretchy effect looks great, and we can’t wait to see more of how else everyone’s powers are used in the film.
Galactus Stomps Through the MCU
Footsteps aren’t generally noteworthy, but they are when they’re from a gigantic cosmic being. The official trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps ends with Galactus walking through the otherwise calm, empty streets of the retro-futuristic New York. It’s an ominous but intriguing conclusion that teases the film’s big bad further without giving away too much.
