Rooting for someone is never easy, but it is something that we all do in life. As I watched episode six of Ransom Canyon, I found myself confused because I was rooting for everyone but the person I should be rooting for. I wasn’t rooting for Staten and Quinn to be together. Then again, I was hoping that they’d stop being passive agressive with eachother.
It feels like everyone in Ransom thinks that the world revolves around them. But it doesn’t and we all know that. Then again, there isn’t a person alive that doesn’t feel like their stuff is the end all, be all.
But the constant manipulation, blame, and chaos – well the drama that is always entertaining.
I love this show.

The thing about it is, I am thinking I know what is going to happen – I don’t. It is the beautiful way that the character are written – strong, fierce, and each one so unique? Is it that they are characters are brought to life so well that I am invested and want nothing more than for them to succeed.
But everything is a competition. Every decision, every conversation – all of it is characters trying to one up each other. But somehow even as things get more and more dramatic it works.
You have to remember one thing – everyone is searching for something. and a lot of time what that is – is to be loved.

REID DIDN’T STAND A CHANCE
After the last episode – well all the episodes – Reid is in need of some serious help and structure. He’s obviously got a lot going on in his mind. I do think that him working on the ranch and diving in to learn as much as he can is helpful to him. And he being open and honest with his Uncle Staten is growth, but I think that since he continues to avoid telling what really happened to Randall and his involvement in it.
Right now, Reid is not redeemable. He’s actually one of the worst of the worst. I have to wonder what it is that caused that night. Why they let Randall hang in that car, rather than getting him help.
Cooking with his Mom, well that’s one thing. At least he’s got a smile on his face and yet remains someone who says that he’s fine all the time. He needs to open up and tell something real. I would think that he would tell her parents but I would be wrong.
I do believe that Reid doesn’t stand a chance and that’s because of his parents. They didn’t give him structure or love. But when this truth comes out – and it will – who is he going to have left.

YOUNG LOVE
Love is a weird thing. Especially when you are young. I can see Lauren and Lucas being together, but I also hate that everyone seems to think that he’s bad and she’s good and they shouldn’t be together.
Even Kit, who is supposed to be supportive of his brother tells her to not let it go more than a month, because picking up the pieces would be hard. Lucas is this incredibly smart, motivated kid. He has all these opportunities and all these great schools that want him. But he wants to go to UT with Lauren.

THE THING ABOUT GRACIE’S
With the revitalization of the dance hall, everyone is there. But sometimes that is fun – being around the people that you don’t always see. It’s about building a community.
Now that Yancy has won the rodeo he wants to spend part of his money buying Cap a new tractor. Ellie is just as confused as the rest of us – who is Yancy Grey. She was ready to give up on him, but there he is – doing nice things and she’s not giving up on him now.
He was a typical man – only hearing what he wanted to hear. Ellies default setting is giving up on people, but he doesn’t want that to happen to her.
The hall – Gracie’s – is filled and that’s a good thing. However, makes me wonder when Austin, Water, & Power is doing. Like what part of the deal is going to come back and bite her in the hynie? well, that would be Paula Jo.
She comes in and tells Quinn the next day she needs to close to the public for a meeting. She reminds her that she’s bought and paid for. Which is really gross to say.
With Paula Jo, you get what you get. She’s not one to sugar coat anything or make everything seem rosy. It doesn’t matter if she’s getting the truth, she’s going to make it known that she is going to get what she wants.
Adam had told Quinn that this money was coming to her with no strings attached. There are, however, strings and this is one of them.

TWEEDLE DEE
At the Double K Ranch, they are cleaning the barn and don’t you know that Lucas and Reid have found a way to fight again. The two are so against using their words or not taking words so seriously.
When they start fighting again – both Staten and Jake are annoyed. Staten asks about Lucas black eye and he doesn’t throw Reid under the bus, but Reid throws himself under the bus and admits he did it and was wrong.
They decide to split them up – each one takes one of the morons. Reid is with his uncle and they head into town to pick up a truck. Don’t you know that they end up at Gracies.

PAULA JO
I have never seen a woman that is so determined as Paula Jo is. She’s not taking no for an answer on anything and that includes sitting Davis and Staten down to cause trouble and talk about Reid.
Davis doesn’t think that Staten should be there for this, because you know, not a parent. The thing is that Staten is the only one that is parenting Reid at this point.
Davis is an idiot. He doesn’t get that his pride is getting in the way of having a relationship with Reid. Staten tells them that Reid is a good kid, he just made some mistakes. As a parent you aren’t supposed to push your kids away. Yes, Reid said he did something that he didn’t do, and yes Davis is worried about how it makes the family look. BUT, there are other things to do besides kicking your kid out.
Davis and Staten are again, finding themselves in a war of words. Davis is just flat out wrong when he tells Staten that Reid staying at his place, won’t bring Randall back.
I hate you Davis.
I also dislike Paula Jo. She has this meeting with two dudes and her big plan to get Staten to sell. She asserts herself to make Quinn know that she owns her silence and that Gracies could go away without Austin, Water, and Power.

THERE IS NO TRUST
Ellie doesn’t have to trust Yancy, but she wants to. She wants to because even though he’s a mystery, he’s her mystery and she likes him. When she goes to Kai for help understanding Yancy – Kai has made it clear that he doesn’t trust him. So they both decide that they’re going to look into him.
For Ellie that means heading to the ranch to snoop around and see what she can find on Yancy. She finds a box of pictures and as she’s going through them, she hears him returning. Quickly hiding the box where it was, when he opened the door to come in, he’s surprised to see her there.
The two end up having sex and though I thought it would make me feel uncomfortable, it was the way that it was shot that actually made it tasteful and beautiful. It moved the story forward, but also increased the complications between these two.
She tells him she wants to know him – but he makes everything a joke. He asks her to dinner the next night and whatever questions she has he will answer.
The issue with that though is that she’s not good at waiting. As her and Kai are both looking into him, she knows she can’t wait for answers she can’t trust. She slept with him and that was a lot. But now she’s going to have to have to talk to Freddie to get more answers.
No dinner for her.

STATEN ISN’T RIGHT
I legit never realized that there could be that many baby blue F-250’s in such a small town. But here we are and Staten is driving past one that had some body work done. He turns around to ask questions which I didn’t expect him to do. But he did and that led to him beig arrested.
Quinn is the person that comes to bail Staten out of jail – to which that does surprise me. A LOT. She sets boundaries and then back tracks on them. I know, I know it’s her life and she can do what she wants. Definitely not trying to take away from that.
I think for me, it’s the fact that these two keep going round and round and never just get to the point. But then again, that’s how most relationships go. People don’t want to admit how they feel in ways that make them vulnerable.
Ransom Canyon Season 1, Episode 4 Review: ‘That Boy Is My Whole Heart’
Quinn isn’t afraid to call out Staten and ask the questions that no one wants to ask him. She asks about Reid being there, and I immediately was thinking that she shouldn’t be doing Davis’ dirty work. Honestly, Reid being at Staten’s was a choice, but it was Reid and Davis’ based on their argument.
Quinn needs to just worry about her relationship with Staten. I don’t get why everyone seems to think that Staten is trying to do something sinister by taking his nephew in. He’s in the right for that.
As the conversation progresses to their relationship, I softened towards Quinn because I related to her saying that “maybe something are meant to be left in the past no matter how beautiful they are or what could have been.”
IT IS EXPLAINING IT TO DAVIS
I don’t think that Quinn should have to explain herself to Davis. I think that he is a troll, but that’s just me. The way that Davis sees thing and manipulates things. He’s definitely really good at it – which isn’t a compliment.
Quinn did the right thing by bailing out Staten. He needed her and I believe that she needed him. The two are doing a dance about their feelings. But Davis, he’s not doing a dance. He’s emerging from under his troll bridge and saying the things on his mind.
He tells Quinn that he’s not normally a jealous person, but for her – he is. I don’t get why she doesn’t see the big red flag there. But here we are.
The conversation with Quinn about Reid being at his house, as well as the conversation at Gracie’s led Staten to dropping off Reids things at Davis’ house. Was I shocked that Davis invited Staten in? Yes. Was I shocked that Staten went in for a drink? Absolutely.
The two talk about Paula Jo’s sit down and a little about Reid. The two keep talking and Staten basically reminds Davis that he doesn’t want to be in a position where he wasted time with his son.
I felt like the two were trying to relate to each other – for Reids sake. Maybe Paula Jo’s sit down worked. Or maybe it was Quinn. Whatever it is – these two need to grab on and keep things that way. They need to converse and stop the war.
Or at the very least – Davis needs to go back to his place under whatever rock or bridge that he crawled out from.

THE TRUCK
When you’re a teenager, everything seems like the end of the world. Life is filled with mysteries and first times and adventure. However, this adventure isn’t something that I would ever want to deal with.
But if I could deal with the parties that were around when I was a teenager – I’d be right there.
A party at the lake was always a good time.
Lauren and Lucas wander off on their own and Lucas decides to skinny dip. Don’t worry, you are not going to see anyone full frontal. Just some cheeks.
Lucas going underwater as Lauren is stripping down. She doesn’t get too far, because Lucas tells her to call the police. He says that there is a truck under the water and someone could be in there.
Lucas – how you found that truck in the water – I will never understand. But hey, someone needed to find it, eventually.
When the sheriffs office comes and they drag that truck out – well lets just say that Reid and Tim have a lot to worry about and they’re not subtle.
Definitely not subtle.

OTHER THOUGHTS
- The flashback to the night Randall died was sad
- Paula Jo and Reid cooking was sweet. At least one of his parents is trying with him.
- Staten being hands off when seeing Paula Jo makes me LOL. That would be uncomfortable for anyone. Car sex is awkward.
- Ellie seeing Yancy go into Crossroads, that threw her for a loop. I felt for her because she can’t trust the guy she likes.
- I hope that Ruth isn’t so confused with Yancy coming to visit her more. Cap may loose his mind
- Davis and Yancy talking is always not something that I enjoy – partially because I think Yancy is one that I want to see turn his life around
- Davis reminding Yancy about how his Mom suffered – yet another moment that Davis is trash
- Lauren’s Papa bringing Whataburger – what I would do for one of those. Love them
- But also – besides the burger – glad that the Sheriff showed up for his little girl.
