A new addition to the action comedy genre is coming to Prime Video next month. Deep Cover, starring Bryce Dallas-Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed, brings the world of improv to the fast-paced scene of criminal masterminds. Directed by Tom Kinglsey, the action comedy follows a trio of comics as their instincts to “always say yes” take them deep inside the London criminal underworld. Deep Cover, written by Derek Connolly & Colin Trevorrow and Ben Ashenden & Alexander Owen, debuts on Thursday, June 12, on Prime Video.
The Deep Cover trailer shows how Dallas-Howard, Bloom, and Mohammed’s characters get into this unconventional situation. As it turns out, they’re all connected through improve. Dallas-Howard’s Kat is an aspiring comedian who hasn’t experienced her big break. Instead, she’s teaching improv classes to Bloom’s Marlon and Mohammed’s Hugh, among others. One night, an undercover policeman – a Detective Sergeant played by Sean Bean, to be more specific – approaches Kat with a proposition to be involved with “a program using improv comics to take down criminals.”

So, not only does Deep Cover have a The Lord of the Rings reunion (Bloom played Legolas in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Bean portrayed Boromir in The Fellowship of the Ring), it promises absolute chaos when this trio finds themselves infiltrating “London’s gangland by impersonating dangerous criminals.” Deep Cover also stars Paddy Considine and Sonoya Mizuno, with Ian McShane. Considine is in on the action in the trailer. Mizuno’s character compares Hugh to Paddington instead of his preferred Bond.
Prime Video announced Deep Cover in February, ahead of its production beginning that month. “We’re delighted to be bringing this new action comedy to our customers. With an incredible cast, a top-class creative team, and a fantastic script, we know it’s going to be a hit,” Tushar Jindal, Head of Content, UK for Prime Video, said. Colin Trevorrow produces the movie via his Metronome Film Co. alongside Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. Annys Hamilton co-produces.
