Rachel Zegler is everywhere, and though some may hate that, we don’t necessarily mind. She’s a talented actress and singer. But, let’s face it – since Snow White and all of the backlash there, and not to mention her run as Evita in the West End coming up – we didn’t expect her to have a new role soon. We’re not complaining that she does, though.
Especially cause it’s opposite Marisa Tomei. We’ve loved her since My Cousin Vinnie and followed her career ever since.
The two will be starring together in She Gets It From Me. It’s a mother/daughter story, which is based on a true story. The movie “follows Nicky (Zegler), whose engagement celebration turns into a search for her pill-popping, ex-punk rocker birth mother, Charlotte (Tomei). Together, the two embark on an anarchic mother-and-daughter journey to reconnect.”
The synopsis made us laugh: “YouTube is packed with tearful family reunions, but nobody films the messy aftermath.”
We’re pretty sure we could find some messy aftermath somewhere online, but we’re not gonna. We’re holding out for the movie.
“The emotional truth of the movie, reflecting parts of all our lives, is truly funny, immersive cinema,” director Julia von Heinz said in a statement. “Jay [Reiss]’s screenplay captures family dynamics at their most authentic: absurd yet profound, messy yet meaningful. The collision of two worlds creates comedy that cuts deep because it’s so honest.”
Producer Jen Dana added, “Rachel always brings a brilliant depth and humanity to her roles, and we are so excited for her to continue to showcase her versatility and humor as an actress.”
We’ll definitely be following this one for more information. This movie sounds like one we’ll definitely watch.
