With a few months to its name, this year is only gearing up for more sports entertainment. Netflix has quite the monopoly heading into May, but great docuseries and live shows are premiering across networks and streaming services, too. For example, May’s line-up includes the return of Welcome to Wrexham on FX and the debut of Beckham & Friends Live on Paramount+. We gathered every project in one place, so you don’t miss a thing!

Tuesday, May 6: Beckham & Friends Live
This year’s UEFA Champions League won’t conclude without some extra special coverage from CBS Sports. David Beckham – the English former professional footballer, president and co-owner of Inter Miami CF, and co-owner of Salford City – is hosting a Paramount+ exclusive show: Beckham & Friends Live. The live show that acts as a watch-along for the semi-finals and the final with to-be-announced guests kicks off on Tuesday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 7, at 3 pm EST on Paramount+. With the semi-finals conversations happening in London, Beckham & Friends Live will travel to Munich for the final on Sunday, May 31.
David Beckham confirmed the show as part of CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage hosted by Kate Scott and co-hosted by Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards. Beckham then shared a sneak peek at the London studio, saying, “And I must admit, it all looks so beautiful,” on Instagram. The video also teased one of Beckham & Friends Live’s upcoming guests – the French professional football coach, pundit, and former professional footballer, Thierry Henry, himself. CBS Sports produces the show in collaboration with UEFA Champions League, Authentic, and Relevent Sports.
Beckham & Friends Live was originally announced in September 2024 to cover the 2025 and 2026 UEFA Champions League finals.
Beckham & Friends Live premieres on Tuesday, May 5, at 3/2c on Paramount+.

Wednesday, May 7: Full Speed
The second season of NASCAR’s docuseries Full Speed premieres on Wednesday, May 7. It will tell the story of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs with stars like Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, William Byron, Christopher Bell, and Daniel Suárez. The five-episode season will culminate the 10-race playoffs with the championship race at Phoenix Raceway. Of course, Joey Logano wins the whole thing, bringing in Team Penske’s third consecutive win in the NASCAR Cup Series championship. Still, Full Speed Season 2 gets to fill in the gaps from the start to the checkered flag.
Full Speed Season 2 premieres on Wednesday, May 7, on Netflix.

Thursday, May 15: Vini Jr.
A new sports documentary will chronicle “the most emotional and challenging year of Vinicius Junior’s career” when it premieres on Thursday, May 15, on Netflix. Vini Jr. follows the Brazilian football star’s hurdles and setbacks, as well as honors and wins throughout 2024. From rising “as a powerful voice against racism in stadiums” to shouting “in triumph as he lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy and was named best player in the world by The Best FIFA,” this documentary will cover it all.
Directed by Andrucha Waddington, Vini Jr. will feature interviews with Vinicius Junior’s friends and massive names in the football world, like Neymar, coach Carlo Ancelotti, José Ángel Sánchez (CEO of Real Madrid), Benzema, Rodrygo, Courtois, Roberto Carlos, and Cristiano Ronaldo. The documentary, produced by Conspiração, offers behind-the-scenes insight into Vinicius Junior’s journey from Flamengo to the Brazilian National Team.
Vini Jr. premieres on Thursday, May 15, on Netflix.

Thursday, May 15: Welcome to Wrexham
Another season of Welcome to Wrexham is coming to FX on Thursday, May 15. This one will follow the club’s historic run in the English Football League’s League One for the first time in 20 years. Though Wrexham fans will know how this season ends, the docuseries offers an up-close and personal look at the journey of co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, the coaches and players, as well as the club’s staff and supporters. Not to mention, Welcome to Wrexham Season 4 will see the women’s side compete in the Welsh Adran Premier League and Executive Director Humphrey Ker train for a marathon.

Thursday, May 22: Earnhardt
Prime Video will commemorate its first-ever presentation of a NASCAR Cup Series race – the Coca-Cola 600 from Charlotte Motor Speedway – with the first two episodes of Earnhardt premiering on Thursday, May 22. The final two episodes of the four-part series about the influential NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt will debut on Thursday, May 29, on the streaming service. Directed by Joshua Altman, Earnhardt uses everything from archival footage to interviews with everyone from his children and rivals to tell a story that “explores the legendary racing career and complex family dynamics.”
Imagine Documentaries, Everyone Else, and NASCAR Studios, in association with Dirty Mo Media, produced the docuseries. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Sara Bernstein, Christopher St. John, and Justin Wilkes of Imagine Documentaries; Dan Lindsay and TJ Martin of Everyone Else; and Tim Clark and John Dahl of NASCAR Studios executive produce Earnhardt.

Friday, May 23: Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds
Netflix takes viewers inside the cockpit with the 2023 team of the U.S. Air Force’s legendary flight squadron, The Thunderbirds, with Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds. The movie comes from executive producers Barack Obama and Michelle Obama and follows Thunderbird 1 — Lt. Col. Justin “Astro” Elliott. Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds “centers the brave men and women behind the throttle while never shying away from the brutal truth: Being a Thunderbird is dangerous, and putting service above self means you must be willing to pay the ultimate price,” per its description.
Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds premieres on Friday, May 23, on Netflix.

Wednesday, May 28: F1: The Academy
Move over, Formula 1: Drive to Survive – for now! Netflix has a new, seven-part motorsport docuseries from showrunner Lisa Keane that puts the women at the center of the race track. F1: The Academy will spotlight “the rising generation of women tearing up the track in the 2024 F1 Academy racing series, breaking barriers in one of the most demanding (and male-dominated) sports in the world,” per Netflix’s description.
The docuseries puts Susie Wolff, “a former professional driver and now managing director of F1 Academy, and the first woman to participate in a Formula 1 weekend in 22 years,” at the center when it premieres on Wednesday, May 28. Through behind-the-scenes access backed by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, F1: The Academy will see Wolff’s leadership through “a rare blend of strategic vision and firsthand experience.”
Sara Rea, Sarah Lazenby for Hello Sunshine, Wolff, Isabelle Stewart, and Ian Holmes for F1 executive produce the series.
F1: The Academy premieres on Wednesday, May 28, on Netflix.
