I never warmed up to Velasco. He seemed bored in his job.
Curry is a great character, I wish they had given her one lower rank than captain. What are they (Benson and Curry) now? Co-captains? Assistant to the regional captain?

I am glad they are bringing Rollins back. If they can reintegrate her in a meaningful way, she has potential to be setup as the lead should Benson retire. She is not the same as Benson, but she could be interesting in her own way.

Velasco was poorly introduced, but once we finally had that background episode (instead of the 99 stories that all sounded fake/contradictory with each other), there were opportunities for storytelling. Much like with every new character, those opportunities were wasted.

I guess Benson is SVU’s Captain, and Curry just has a title but does nothing with it now? That’s…yeah. They had this “great” idea of adding someone of the same rank (and another woman!!!) to the mix…and did nothing. A waste. A lower rank might’ve been helpful for making things make sense/actually seeing her DO SOMETHING, but at that point, look at what’s happened with every other new female detective. She’d be gone. Wouldn’t be surprised if she still was, at some point sooner rather than later.

My main problem with bringing her back at this point is the optics. Velasco and Silva gone. Another white woman, back. And that’s after an entire season where all the personal storytelling went to her when she was a GUEST while Benson got literally nothing. Worse than nothing, actually.

I think the decision to bring Rollins back must have been made a year ago. That could be why they kept her so relevant this season.

Maybe once they have a different main character, they might feel okay to allow Benson to have good stuff in life…. Maybe?
