The Buccaneers Season 2 trailer teases what sisterhood, romance, and twists await the young American Buccaneers when the show returns next month. The drama’s sophomore season premieres on Wednesday, June 18, on Apple TV+. New episodes of the eight-episode season will stream weekly, which means there is that much more time to unpack all that’s ahead. This trailer reveals so much, mostly around Nan’s decision to marry Theo, the Duke of Tintagel, to become a Duchess and save her sister, Jinny.
The two-minute trailer, deliciously set to Chappel Roan’s “Good Luck Babe!,” shows a bit of the toll that choice takes on her. The Dowager Duchess is in Nan’s ear telling her, “Everything before ‘I do’ is now irrelevant. All Theo needs to know is that he has a dutiful and loving wife.” But it’s never that simple. Everything before “I do” matters to Nan because that includes Guy. The Buccaneers Season 1, Episode 8, “Wedding of the Season,” has that mutual love confession between Nan and Guy. Understandably, that will be difficult for Nan to shake as she steps into the role of Duchess of Tintagel.
Though all will be revealed, this trailer suggests that Nan to work to convince herself that she’s made the right choice in Theo. Creator Katherine Jakeways told Entertainment Weekly, “Not only was it impossible to get out of almost any marriage in those days, but certainly a Duke was not able to get divorced. This is for the whole of her life that she has made this choice, on the absolute spur of the moment, to save her sister. She’s never going to regret saving her sister. But is she going to regret saying goodbye to the love of her life?”

Cut to headlines about Nan and Theo’s “Honeymoon Tour,” but there are also those about “An Affair at Tintagel.” A lot is happening in the early days of Nan and Theo’s marriage, which is the furthest thing from simple. The Buccaneers trailer shows the other side of The Buccaneers’ main love triangle, catching up with Jinny and Guy months after they left England. Guy states, presumably in a letter that Nan receives, that his feelings for Nan have not changed.
So, needless to say, this love triangle is not going anywhere anytime soon. Even though the trailer focuses heavily on it, it’s not the only pressing matter for The Buccaneers Season 2 to explore.
After all, Jinny has given birth to the baby, which is another complex story for the second season to follow. Jakeways told EW, “She is on the run from her husband, who we know is dangerous and knows that she has a baby. The times that they were living in mean that Jinny is a criminal.” The trailer shows glimpses of how scary that storyline will be to watch, as Seadown confronts Nan – on a cliff – about Jinny. Not to mention, Seadown is determined to stake his rights of ownership over Jinny, saying, “She’s mine. You know I’ll find her.” There’s also a headline that states: “Lady Seadown Steals Husband’s Unborn Child.”
Later in the trailer, with Seadown at the table and Lizzy and Conchita smiling on, Nan definitively says, “No man should be allowed to own his wife.” Unfortunately, that is a sign of the times in which The Buccaneers exists. “The wife, and also the baby, is Seadown’s property. If he finds her and that baby, he can absolutely take ownership of it. So, Jinny’s going to be in a very beautiful place and have some adventures, but she’s never going to be able to not look over her shoulder,” Jakeways said.

Meanwhile, The Buccaneers Season 2 will also pick up after the Season 1 finale, with the drama starting “off hot and fresh, and it goes full speed ahead,” per Jakeways. Part of that includes jumping in with the twist that Nan’s biological mother is inside the church at Nan’s wedding. The trailer doesn’t reveal much, but it does introduce Leighton Meester’s character. Though the Apple TV+ series has yet to name the highly anticipated arrival of this character, whoever she may be, it does tease that Meester’s role has some connection to Christina Hendricks’ Patty. So, let the speculation about Meester’s role continue!
As much as this trailer bets on the love triangle, it also teases more from Mabela and Honoria’s romance, Conchita and Richard’s family, and something celebratory for Lizzy. Is she wearing a wedding dress?! All of The Buccaneers deserve joy, so it’s genuinely exciting to see those moments amid all the twists and turns in the new trailer. Plus, there’s a glimpse of new characters portrayed by Greg Wise, Jacob Ifan, Grace Ambrose, and Maria Almeida.
As always, The Buccaneers stars Kristine Frøseth, Alisha Boe, Aubri Ibrag, Josie Totah, Imogen Waterhouse, Mia Threapleton, Guy Remmers, Matthew Broome, Josh Dylan, Barney Fishwick, Amelia Bullmore, and Fenella Woolgar.
There’s also a great soundtrack to anticipate – again. Since Season 1 kicked off with an incredible use of Taylor Swift’s music, it’s easy to look forward to what this show will do with its next needle drops. The Buccaneers Season 2 will feature music from Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Gracie Abrams, Clairo, Sharon Van Etten, St. Vincent, Bleachers, and The Last Dinner Party. Executive music producer Stella Mozgawa returns to the show. Plus, the music-forward show will feature new songs from Empress Of, Suki Waterhouse, Madi Diaz, Holly Humberstone, Kacy Hill, Jade Bird, Emily Kokal of Warpaint, and more.
