In Sinners, Ryan Coogler did what only he can do: serve us a genre-bending story steeped in Southern folklore, soaked in blues, and spiked with horror. It was a soulful, Southern Gothic bloodbath that fused hoodoo with heartbreak, and Michael B. Jordan doubled down as the twins, Smoke and Stack.
It’s no surprise the film has grossed nearly $340 million worldwide since its April 18 release, per Box Office Mojo. The bigger surprise? That Coogler, who originally pitched the movie as “a full meal,” may actually be prepping us for dessert.
Coogler told EBONY, “I wanted the movie to feel like a full meal…all of it there…That was always my intention.” He even distanced himself from the franchise mode he helped perfect in Creed and Black Panther.
But audiences, it turns out, had other plans. And Hollywood listened.
Sinners 2 is now reportedly “in development”, per a Production Weekly listing, with Coogler expected to return. It won’t start rolling until he wraps his X-Files reboot and a potential Black Panther 3, but the gears seem to be turning.
It looks like the supernatural juke joint isn’t closing up yet!
Sinners 2 Is in Development
Coogler may have wanted a “holistic and finished thing,” but Sinners left us with enough breadcrumbs to track a whole vampire coven.
The post-credits reveal in Sinners, aka where Sammie (Miles Caton) meets the undead Stack and Mary decades later.

It turned the supposedly “finished” story into a vampire epic with generational reach. This twist was a hinge for future storytelling. Stack survived. So did Mary. Or at least, they’re alive in some form. And now, they’ve returned to Sammie with “an offer,” as if we weren’t already itching for a sequel.
The setup is ripe: a secret world of vampires, an aging bluesman, and a family history soaked in trauma and power.
As Coogler told Variety, “This group of people (…) meet something that’s more dangerous than they could ever imagine.” That something “more dangerous” is clearly lingering on the edge of resurrection. Literally and thematically.
The Path The Sequel Could Take

The original film was inspired by the late-night energy of blues classics like “Wang Dang Doodle” and the horror-infused lineage of Black cinema from Ganja & Hess to Blade. Coogler fused history, myth, and music into a story that begged to be continued.
Now, with Sinners 2 reportedly in development, he may explore what Stack and Mary have been up to for six decades and how Sammie’s family line intersects with the immortal. Coogler’s reluctance to franchise isn’t a barrier. It’s a challenge.
With Sinners 2, he could elevate the genre and community-rooted horror into a legacy, not just a sequel.
After all, what’s more undead than a story fans refuse to let die?
