It’s time to enter our We Were Liars era and make it our entire personality. With the show premiering this month on Prime Video, it means that we’re going to be getting a lot more information about the upcoming series.
And today, the streamer dropped the trailer that had us on the edge of our seats. Emily Alyn Lind play teenager Cadence Sinclair, had us forgetting she was ever on Gossip Girl and believing that she truly was Cadence Sinclair.
She embodies Cadence.
Life on Beechwood Island looks ideal. It’s a playground of the rich. A getaway where it feels like nothing can happen. The adaptation of E. Lockhart’s best-selling novel of the same name looks as though it is going to do the book series justice.
The flashes of the summer that looked perfect doesn’t mean that all of the moments are perfect. We’ve learned that with all of the movies and television that we watch.
We get moments of Cadence with her friends – Mirren (Esther McGregor), Johnny (Joseph Zada) and Gat (Shubham Maheshwari). We just know that “something terrible happened last summer” and Cadence has no memory of it. But what happened and why it happened – no one will admit to. No one will talk about. Why won’t anyone tell her what happened? How does one move forward when the past isn’t something you can move past?
After all the past was an event that left you for dead.
It’s the summer after the event that Cadence can’t remember. She’s hoping that being there will jog her memory. Her hair dyed black, the holes in her memory… Cadence has definitely changed.
But which of the liars is the cause? What happened? Well you’ll have to watch to find out.
“Not every fable ends happily,” Cadence says at the end of the trailer for the first season of We Were Liars, “Some stories have no hero at all. Sometimes, the castle crumbles.”
The series, We Were Liars, which is inspired by E. Lockhart’s novel of the same name, comes from Julie Plec, Carina Adly MacKenzie, Universal Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie reuniting for a show? Yes, you had our attention with that.
The official logline for the series is, “We Were Liars follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her tight-knit inner circle, nicknamed the Liars, during their summer escapades on her grandfather’s New England private island. The Sinclairs are American royalty—known for their good looks, old money, and enviable bond—but after a mysterious accident changes Cadence’s life forever, everyone, including her beloved Liars, seems to have something to hide.”
Shubham Maheshwari, Joseph Zada, Esther McGregor, Rahul Kohli, David Morse, Caitlin FitzGerald, Candice King, and Mamie Gummer also star alongside Lind. All 8 episodes of We Were Liars will drop at once on Prime Video on June 18th, 2025.
