A character poster seems like something so simple, but it is more complex than that. It’s a picture, a tagline, and well, sometimes the character’s name, which ultimately is simple. But a character poster is meant to sell you on a movie or a television show and introduce you to the characters. It’s the first thing to present in front of an audience, and tell you that these actors are these people. Character posters can start a fandom. They can also break a fandom.
Then again, it’s just a part of marketing. We get that. We also with that character posters were animated, or if you’re posting them on social media, they were part of a carousel where the second post would be a video introducing us to the character.
With We Were Liars, the posters were released, and we kinda love them. Simple, complex, and every single character hides something in their eyes. It’s as if there is this pain and emptiness in each character, but also as if they are peering into your soul and asking you, would you lie?
