This felt like a series finale… with Batman looking at his Gotham at the end of the day. I hope I am wrong though.

I am glad Emery’s ex mentioned McKenna’s name on the phone call, or I was almost wondering if McKenna was simply Stabler’s alter ego in this whole episode (The Fight Club).

McKenna totally invited Benson to join them for the night looking over their favorite city and definitely found an excuse to leave shortly after she arrived 🙂

I really need it NOT to be the case that it was the series finale, though. Just…too sad. I do, however, like your idea about Benson. *nods* Just because we didn’t see it doesn’t mean we can’t imagine it happening!

Felt like a good wrap up to what started in season 4. Emery was finally caught at the cost of Joey’s life. Bell and Reyes were back again the move to streaming made plot flow choppy not to mention during the middle of production another show runner left mid production which lead to many inconsistencies. But it was an average end to the Emery arc. That said if it does get renewed for a season 6 then something needs to change if not I’d be okay with the show ending off here.

Maybe it was the cast rehaul, maybe it was the lack of direction until the end. Maybe its just more behind the scenes issue with show runners changing. But the show has lost something what made it special.

  4. Matt says:

I’d be okay with that. The end of the season fell off the rails for one reason or another. The only good thing of season 5 is we get to see the more extreme Stabler that can’t be shown on broadcast.

If there is season 6, I hope they can come up with a good arc for the whole season. I think the Italian plot was the strongest of the 3.

While I was invested in the Joe Jr outcome, the whole thing about him trying to be a cop felt strange when Eli was pretty much going thru that process in parallel.

The performances by the actors were stellar though.

  6. Callie says:

My honest opinion….. This season felt like I was watching a completely different show. I’m really disappointed by the decision to write out Jet. She brought intelligence, attitude, and a sense of continuity that held the team together. I genuinely miss her. Her absence left a noticeable gap, and with Bell and Reyes barely around most of the season, the whole dynamic felt off. What used to be a tight, compelling ensemble became the Stabler Show with occasional appearances from Vargas. Seriously, where is the OCCB?! I adore Stabler, but he needs his team. I wasn’t a fan of Tanner and found myself getting frustrated whenever she was on screen. She got screen time that should’ve gone to Bell or Reyes.

The writing also felt really rushed (probably due to the shortened season and showrunner change) and the storylines lacked the emotional depth and urgency that made earlier seasons so gripping. Unless they bring back the full team and return to what made this series special, I honestly wouldn’t mind if this was the end.
