The The Rookie panel at SDCC 2025 delivered everything we hoped for and more. Executive producer and star Nathan Fillion, alongside creator and executive producer Alexi Hawley, brought energy and excitement to the room. The duo offered a unique behind-the-scenes look.
What Can We Expect From The Rookie Season 8?
They shared stories about the show’s most beloved moments. Also, they revealed exclusive details on how the series’ most iconic scenes come to life. This panel not only celebrated the show’s legacy but also set the stage for an exciting new chapter as the highly anticipated Season 8 approaches.
One of the highlights was the reveal of upcoming story arcs that promise to push the characters into more personal and challenging territory. They teased that The Rookie Season 8 will open with the story in Prague, where they shot on location. Nathan Fillion says it was like making Casino Royale.
Plus, apparently, that dream crossover with 9-1-1 is pretty far off. But one of the things we’re most excited about is that, officially, in Season 8, we’ll have Lucy back on an undercover mission! They didn’t want to mention much about Chenford, just because they didn’t want to give away the repercussions of the breakup. They wanted to give Tim and Lucy something to work with on their own.

Season 8 Sneak Peek
The panel’s climax came with an exclusive sneak preview of The Rookie season 8 premiere. This first look made it clear that the show has not lost its edge. Packed with suspenseful scenes and hints of unexpected twists, the footage confirmed that the series is still at the top of its game.
In this sneak peek we see our favorite shady lawyer is working alongside Nolan in Prague to catch an arms dealer. Apparently, Bailey is also there, and she and Nolan have some quality time together. However, it seems the mission won’t be easy, and Monica will be in danger. Will this be the end for her?
Everyone left the panel buzzing with excitement and plenty of questions about what’s next for Chenford, John Nolan, and the rest of the team. Without a doubt, The Rookie made a strong impact at SDCC 2025, proving that its upcoming season is a must-watch.
PS: Zander Hawley was a surprise guest and he sings “Daddy Cop” to serenade Nathan Fillion. That was the best!
