Alien: Earth continues the story that started in 1979 with the first Alien movie. But this time around we’re doing a TV show. And we’re heading back to Earth, a place that has been firmly kept at a distance in favor of exploring the stars.
To prepare you for everything that’s to come, here’s everything we know about the FX Network series!
What do you need to know before watching Alien: Earth?
When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat in FX’s highly anticipated TV series Alien: Earth from creator Noah Hawley.
Who stars in the main cast of Alien: Earth?
Lead by Sydney Chandler, the series showcases an expansive international cast which includes Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille and Moe Bar-El.
Where does Alien: Earth fall in the Alien timeline?
- 2093 – Prometheus
- 2104 – Alien: Covenant
- 2120 – Alien: Earth
- 2122 – Alien
- 2142 – Alien: Romulus
- 2179 – Aliens
- 2179 – Alien 3
- 2381 – Alien: Resurrection
What aliens will be featured in Alien: Earth?
So far we know the infamous xenomorph will be making an appearance. And if they appear, so will the facehuggers and chest bursters. As for the rest of them, it’s a bit of a mystery.
The space expedition that crashes into Earth was exploring the furthest reaches of space when collecting these. And they’re all dangerous. But what we’ve seen so far in the trailer centipede like creature that crawls inside your body and a jellyfish looking creature who takes over your body after apparently sucking out your eyeballs.
When it comes to the creature design, Alien: Earth showrunner Noah Hawley told TV Line, “Every aspect of the creatures’ design “all goes to the ‘get into your nightmares’ part of it. Mostly, my hope is that people who watch the show will never do anything comfortably again.”
Why are fans excited for Alien: Earth?
Since Alien vs. Predator isn’t part of this timeline, Earth hasn’t been really explored when it comes this franchise. It’s always been mentioned as part of the lore; what the corporations are doing to rule it. And in Alien: Resurrection they crash into Earth while in Prometheus we see a bit of Earth when getting ready to hit the stars.
This series allows fans of the Alien franchise to get to know a world completely different than our own. And it allows us to get to know the synthetics more. We’ve seen violent versions of them like Ash and David. We’ve also seen helpful ones like Bishop and Andy. But we haven’t seen the beginning or the purpose behind these synthetics. And we haven’t seen them fight, our lead taking on an Ellen Ripley kind of role.
When does it premiere?
Alien: Earth premieres August 12 on FX and Hulu.
