Those of us who grew up in the ’90s and ’00s grew up with Lindsay Lohan’s movies. We saw her rise from child star to teen star and then her leap to global fame. And we were lucky enough to see her comeback. Now, she’s one of the actresses of the moment and is about to revisit one of her most iconic roles. So, it’s time to take a look at the 5 best Lindsay Lohan movies, to prepare you for Freakier Friday.
Mean Girls
No other film has better shown how high school works. There are queen bees and outcasts. It’s the status quo. And when Cady Heron (played by Lindsay Lohan) tries to end it all, she ends up losing herself. Whether we want to admit it or not, we all love being popular, being seen. It’s addictive. And Cady had to lose herself to finally figure out who she was. This is one of Lohan’s first roles as a teen star, and it inevitably comes to mind when you think of her. The movie is iconic.
Freaky Friday
When you’re a teenager, you don’t really understand your parents. Nor do you want to. You just want them to leave you alone because they don’t understand what you want, think, or feel. That’s exactly what Anna Coleman (Lindsay Lohan) felt. Anna was fed up with her mother not supporting her dreams, and her mother just wanted her daughter to keep her feet on the ground. Neither of them was able to put themselves in the other’s shoes. Until a strange spell changed that. This is the film that showed the world that Lindsay Lohan was here to stay and that she wasn’t just another child star. And the best part is that its sequel opens in theaters this week.
The Parent Trap
The film that gave birth to a small, great star at just 11 years old. Lindsay Lohan managed to play two completely different characters, even with different accents. Everyone remembers those twins who made their parents rediscover their love while making their would-be stepmother run away in terror. Over the years, the film has been given the recognition it deserved. It’s a cult classic. And, beyond that, the film has been recognized as proof of Lohan’s natural talent.
Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen
Lindsay Lohan’s most underrated film. It was a paradigm shift. Like any good child and teen star, we were used to seeing Lohan in kind, sweet, and funny roles. But Lola is the complete opposite. She’s a selfish, dramatic, and superficial teenager. She invents a dream life for herself. Lies are the refuge she finds from all the changes happening in her life. And Lola definitely knows how to invent a good story.
Falling for Christmas
This film marks Lindsay Lohan’s return to acting after a hiatus of several years. Like the film’s protagonist, Sierra, Lohan is starting over. While the film doesn’t stray from the clichés typical of Christmas movies, Falling for Christmas managed to develop a backstory that makes Sierra’s growth feel natural and organic, rather than a product of Christmas magic. Sierra’s role is much more mature and makes it clear that Lohan is back, never to leave.
