House of the Dragon Season 3 is getting closer and closer to hitting our screens. In the meantime, we’re excited to see all the cast’s new projects! Alicent Hightower might not be our cup of tea (#TeamBlack forever!), but Olivia Cooke is the best! We can’t wait to see her shine in The Girlfriend, her new show on Prime Video. The streaming service has released the first look, trailer, and release date, and we can’t wait!
What Is The Girlfriend About?
The story follows Laura, a woman who seemingly has it all: a glittering career, a loving husband, and her precious son, Daniel. Her perfect life begins to unravel when Daniel brings home Cherry, a girlfriend who changes everything. After a tense introduction, Laura becomes convinced Cherry is hiding something. Is she a manipulative social climber, or is Laura just paranoid? The truth is a matter of perspective.
Based on Michelle Frances’ novel of the same name, the show stars Robin Wright as Laura, Olivia Cooke as Cherry, Laurie Davidson as Daniel, Waleed Zuaiter as Howard, Tanya Moodie as Isabella, Shalom Brune-Franklin as Brigitte, Karen Henthorn as Tracey, Anna Chancellor as Lilith, Leo Suter as Nicholas, and Francesca Corney as Millie.
As for the behind-the-scenes team, in addition to being part of the cast, Robin Wright takes the helm as executive producer. Apart from her, Will Tennant, Phil Robertson, John Zois, Dave Clarke, Gabbie Asher, and Michelle Frances are executive producers too. Jonathan Cavendish and Caroline Norris serve as producers. The series is adapted for television by Naomi Sheldon and Gabbie Asher, with episodes written by Sheldon, Asher, Polly Cavendish, Helen Kingston, Marek Horn, Ava Wong Davies, Isis Davis, Smita Bhide, and Matt Evans.

Here’s the trailer for The Girlfriend:
In the trailer, we see how difficult it is for Laura to accept that her son Daniel has a girlfriend. He is the light of her life, and she feels that, in some ways, his girlfriend, Cherry, is taking him away from her. However, what seems like the concern of an overly possessive and toxic mother turns into something more twisted when Cherry seems to be behaving somewhat strangely.
Could Laura’s suspicions be unfounded? Or is Cherry just trying to make it clear to Laura that she isn’t going anywhere and that it’s best for her to accept it? Caught in the middle of all this is Daniel. He has to decide who to believe: the woman he loves or his mother. There are always two sides to a story, and this show is about figuring out which one is the right one, if there is one.
