Gwendoline Christie is back as Principal Weems in Wednesday Season 2 Part 2! Her return was initially announced during the Australia leg of the Season 2 tour. She appeared on stage alongside co-stars Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers, Director/EP Tim Burton, and Creators/Showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar.
Today (August 14) Netflix debuted the first trailer for Part 2 and Christie was front and center as Wednesday’s new spirit guide.
Not so surprisingly, Christie looked amazing in the trailer, rocking a sheer white nurses outfit and a cream full sleeve dress with a cape. And we can assume our lead comes across Principal Weems after the Hyde attack at the end of Wednesday Season 2 Episode 4 as their first post-death meeting looks to be in a dream version of Weems office. And when Wednesday returns to the land of the living, only she can see the Principal.
But what exactly happened to Christie’s Principal Weems in Season 1 of Wednesday?
Principal Larissa Weems was first introduced in the first episode of Season 1. She was Morticia’s old roommate during their school days. And having dealt with Addams before, Weems is able to meet Wednesday banter with a calm effectiveness that throws our lead off a bit.
As Season 1 progresses it’s revealed that Weems is a shapeshifter who will do anything to protect Nevermore Academy. When Wednesday discovers that Marilyn Thornhill is controlling the Hyde, Weems shapeshifts into Tyler to find out the truth. After she gets the confirmation she needs, she confronts Thornhill who then stabs Weems with a needle poisoned with nightshade. Weems collapses and dies.
Now Principal Weems is back as Wednesday’s spirit guide, something our lead has wanted all season long. Knowing how formidable the Principal was in Season 1, there will be regrets on Wednesday’s part. But viewers who missed Gwendoline Christie will be happy for her return!
