Hallmark has made The Chicken Sisters feel a little dramatic these days, but is that a bad thing? Probably not. I think that we can all agree that small towns are very dramatic. It’s kinda of the excitement of small towns – everyone is in your business and the challenge of trying to keep everything a secret.
As with most secrets, they have a way of rising to the surface. You can try to keep them hidden, but there are a lot of things that just come out. Especially in today’s day and age, there is nothing that ever stays a secret. Cameras and recording devices are everywhere.
But if you’re on a television show, keeping secrets becomes harder. The town of Marinec didn’t expect all of the things that came to light with Kitchen Clash to come to light. It’s not going to be easy for anyone in the town to deal with. The whole world is paying attention to the small town.
But it’s time that the people in this town start paying attention to who they are.
CHEATER CHEATER
With Kitchen Clash exposing Amanda and Sergio’s kiss, there is bound to be a lot of drama. Things that were meant to stay buried and out of the limelight – but toss in a hidden camera and they most definitely will.
With Amanda, she lost herself in marriage, and the events from the first season reminded her of how he can’t let that happen. She wants more from her life, and that starts with a divorce. Only when your husband finds out that you cheated – from a television show – you can’t expect that to be easy.
There is grace given to Amanda as she hides in her house. She knows that in this small town, there will be a lot of eyes on her and a lot of talking and judgment. She’s been grieving a life that she thought would be, decisions that she made at one point in her life. Even with all of the good things that came out of marrying Frank Jr, there is a sense of what could have been also.
No one can really blame Frank Jr for being hurt over his wife cheating and his Mom keeping the secret. However, in that same breath, he was not a good husband to Amanda. There is no excuse for cheating.
You can see the growth from the first season to now in Mae and Amanda’s sisterhood, when Mae shows up and makes her breakfast, and tries to tell her that it will be okay.
Will it? Who knows.
BITTER MAN CHILD
Frank Jr is being led astray by this Christian dude, and I would like for him to go away. Frank Jr has always been cold and distant. Anyone in his life – he’s made sure that they make everything about him.
The realization that his marriage is truly over has to be a hard pill to swallow. Yet, when you know it is over, let it be just that. Over.
Instead, he’s somehow figured out how to gaslight everyone in his path and play on their guilt.
His confronting Amanda felt petty. It tracks for a small town. As much as Amanda feels humiliated, so does he. The one thing that he can do to hurt her is to hold the divorce papers and not sign them. He doesn’t know how to say I am sorry for all that I have done and to take responsibility.
Pain and hurt are something that everyone experiences, and you can’t discount that from anyone. It’s gotta be pretty bad when he even writes his Mom off because she didn’t tell him. It wasn’t his mom’s responsibility to tell Frank Jr, IMO. That’s their own business, and she runs the risk of losing everything if she tells her son what she saw.
Nancy is trying to make up and offer peace – however, that is something that Frank Jr can’t give her. He’s too upset, and his mindset is revenge.
Lord, the drama.
DADDY?
The whole wedding thing – Mae getting married – is something that I am looking forward to. What I am surprised about is that the wedding is two weeks out and she hasn’t planned a thing. Mae can’t bring herself to try and plan the wedding, because planning it is against everything that she’s ever known.
For her, she never planned on getting married, because she was taught that people always leave. It was a sad thing to see that Mae thought she wasn’t worthy of people loving her. The one thing that she wants more than anything for her wedding? Well, that would be to know who her Daddy is.
When Sabrina offers to help her plan the wedding, everything is falling into place. Sabrina is actually really good at planning. She’s also a good friend who is easy for Mae to open up to. I am not sure what Mae wanted, because she’s left the town and her past. She’s back – yes – but that may be bringing up a lot of things.
It was nice to see that Mae had someone to talk to and open up to. There is nothing wrong with wanting to know who your father is, but what is frustrating is that Gus won’t tell her. It is frustrating, because I think that Gus doesn’t want to tell her for one reason – she’s still hurt over it.
But do we find out who the Daddy is? Yes. Does Mae? No. We’ll be standing by for that to happen.
DON’T FORGET ME
Amanda got the call from school that Frankie had missed class. She goes all over town and ends up finding herself in a movie theater.
Amanda ended up later that day in Frankie’s bedroom, trying to figure out what was happening. Out of all of the things happening in town, the one thing that people haven’t really seemed to bother with is how it affects Frankie.
But she put her cards on the table.
For her, when she saw the footage with Sergio, she realized that her parents were over. It wasn’t that she minded them being over – she knew that they weren’t good together. It’s that no one talks to Frankie about what is happening. Instead, they talk around her.
She wants some time to talk to her and tell her what is going on. Frankie didn’t know that things would feel this bad when people started moving on. With them moving on, she is afraid that she will be forgotten and people will move on from her.
As Amanda tells her feelings, Frankie tells her. While people try and protect their kids, sometimes they make their kids feel like they are isolated on an island. No matter what happens, they will have each other.
I do know that Amanda has to find herself, who she is, without relationships and chicken. She doesn’t know who she is, and that is sad.
But her daughter has her back, and she needs to remember that.
