The Map That Leads to You premieres this week on Prime Video, and we will be watching the moment that it starts streaming. Why? Well, the book was pretty goo,d and we’re always interested in an adaptation. Then there is the fact that if anyone is doing adaptations right, it is Prime.
And then there is its star. Madelyn Cline.
Yes, we know KJ Apa is in it too, but his previous fat-shaming comments in the past have us side-eyeing him.
The logline for the movie is, “Heather (Cline), a young woman setting off on an adventure across Europe with her best friends (Sofia Wylie & Madison Thompson) before settling into her perfectly planned life. When she crosses paths with Jack (Apa).”
A cautionary tale, I would think. Anything that involves a romance on a trip? Well, that’s a good time, but you have to be careful not to let them change your life. Young and idealistic is a good thing, though.
Excuse my skepticism. I am just bitter.
In doing press for the movie, Apa was on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy show and talked about a scene in the movie that was meant for Cline, but he stepped in.
During the interview, Andy said, “KJ, of course, will not say it, but I’m going to say something that may sell the movie to a lot of you who are wondering whether to go see it. You can very clearly see KJ’s a** in the movie.”
While that may sell some people on it, some of us are like – and? Why do we want that?
“I didn’t know that day that I was going to be showing my a**. Had I known, maybe I would’ve shaved it.” Apa said. He talked about his backside being “hairy,” which, NGL, made us cringe. We know that people have hair everywhere – there is no shame here – but why would it be one of the first things someone brings up? Are we talking so hairy that you can braid it?
He went on to talk about how the scene wasn’t originally meant for him, but he stepped in for Cline.
“Originally, she was meant to be naked in the shower, and then something happened that day,” he shared with Andy.
Okay, okay – by that knowledge, he’s getting a little bit of redemption from us. Maybe we won’t be so hard on him.
The Map That Leads to You premieres on Prime Video on August 20th. Will you be watching?
