After Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 Episode 5 “Needfire” left us with our wig on Mars, it’s time to talk about a detail from the episode that didn’t go unnoticed: Seer Maisri’s prophecy. She predicts a very clear future for Julia’s unborn son and left us with many theories about what this prophecy means.
What Happened in Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 Episode 5 ‘Needfire’?

Almost at the end of Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 Episode 5 “Needfire,” Seer Maisri arrives at the Fraser clan residence. She is the fortune teller Lord Lovat has sent to tell him what the future holds for both his clan and his son. Julia doesn’t believe in these superstitions, but she has no choice but to be present to avoid raising suspicions.
However, Julia begins to pay attention to Seer Maisri’s words when she describes Claire. There’s no way Seer Maisri could have known about her, but the way she describes her… that’s Claire. And what she says troubles her. Seer Maisri prophesies that Claire’s time “is yet to come.” But that’s not the only prophecy that troubles Julia.
Seer Maisri predicts that her unborn son is destined to be the future King of Scotland and that he will bring glory to Clan Fraser, returning Lord Lovat to his rightful place. Restoring the power he lost. And while Lord Lovat is beside himself with joy, Julia feels like throwing up.

What Does Seer Maisri’s Prophecy Mean?

To be honest, our first thought when we saw Seer Maisri in Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 Episode 5 “Needfire” was the same as Julia’s: that she was a scammer. But when she described Claire so accurately, we started to pay attention. Claire’s prophecy is easy to decipher. Seer Maisri refers to her journey into the past. However, the prophecy of Julia’s unborn child is much more complicated.
According to Seer Maisri, Julia’s son would be the future King of Scotland. In the midst of the dawn of a Jacobite revolution, this prophecy is not something easily ignored. However, we think Julia’s son would be too young to lead the early rebellions or play a prominent role in them. So, does the prophecy refer to the rebellion in which Jamie and Claire participated? Or is the prophecy a lie?
Well, we don’t think it’s likely that the prophecy refers to Bonnie Prince Charles—although that would blow our minds. But it doesn’t seem like Seer Maisri is lying either. Truth be told, we believe some of what Seer Maisri says is for Lord Lovat’s benefit. She tells him what he wants to hear. Seer Maisri knows that Lord Lovat’s greatest desire is to regain the power and position he lost. So she makes sure to promise him that he will.
That said, amidst all the talk, it’s clear that Seer Maisri does indeed prophetize something real regarding Claire and her brother. It remains to be seen what is real and what is just honey to Lord Lovat’s ears. Therefore, we think that Julia’s son will be important to Scotland, but he won’t restore Lord Lovat’s lost power and position. In any case, there’s not much left to find out!
