Have you ever been asked if you could read a book for the first time again, what would it be? What book do you wish that you could feel that feeling that it gave you for the first time? Would you like to revisit that book or series and fall in love with reading again? The Summer I Turned Pretty has been an experience and I am thankful to Prime Video for giving us that.
THE EXPERIENCE
For me – it is The Summer I Turned Pretty series. It will always be a trip to Cousins and counting my life in summers (even though I love winters more). The way that I remember the moments that I found myself smiling, crying, squealing and feeling a sense of love and admiration. I fell in love with family, friendship, and Conrad Fisher.
Every year I sit down and reread the series from beginning to end. I annotate the book – giving myself a look at the feelings and the joy that this series brings me. I love The Summer I Turned Pretty, and I have always wished that I could get the chance to read it from the beginning and get that excitement.
Experiencing that- I wasn’t even thinking that that I would have that chance to experience so differently – in three episodes. Three episodes of something brand new, that doesn’t follow the books and gives a new storyline for Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. It’s as if I get the chance to read something new – but watching it unfold on the screen.
And that is exciting. I have looked forward to every moment that Prime Video, worked to bring this story to life.
THE ARC
Looking back at when my lovethe ARC of The Summer I Turned Pretty. I was at a friends and she’d recieved it and had it at the bottom of her TBR pile. I took it out, curled up on the couch and started reading. 4 hours later, I was crying, smiling and believing in the power of summers.
I read the book and I fell for Conrad Fisher. I watched him come alive in every page and felt seen. The guy was going through so much and all he wanted to do was protect the people he loves from pain and heartache. He didn’t realize that taking that on meant that he would loose himself along the way.
Relating to Conrad was instant. Conrad was broken, but was looking to put himself back together piece by piece.
THE TRAILER
In the trailer we hear Belly say, “I had these pillars in my life — Cousins, my family, Taylor, Jere.” She’s making the journey from Boston to Paris. She’s ready to live life on her terms.
To heal from her heartache.
She’s going to Paris to study abroad. Her life is just beginning and she’s realizing that the pillars that she’s talked about are no longer there.
“They made me feel like I was safe, like I was on solid ground.” she said, “Now they’re gone. And it’s just me.”
Belly isn’t going to be Lauren Conrad or Rachel from friends. She’s gone to Paris to find who she is. This includes a new group of friends, new experiences. Corinna Brown, Fernando Cattori, Isaline Prevost Radeff and Jahz Armando all joined the cast and will be with her in Paris.
As a book reader, seeing a new journey for Belly is exciting. It’s like getting a new book or reading the books for the first time.
I can’t wait to watch the final three episodes and see the new journey that Jenny takes our favorites on. She’s a genius and she gives us such great stories. I will be sad when The Summer I Turned Pretty ends, but I will be happy that it happened.
And we’ll always have the books to read.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is streaming on Prime Video.
