Wednesday Season 2 Episode 7 “Woe Me the Money” makes me question previous comments from the showrunners and cast about this season dialing back on the romance. Because I don’t know if the writers have clocked it, but there’s plenty of romantic stuff going up between Wednesday and Enid. And it goes back to the whole train of thought that if Wednesday and Enid were a guy and a girl, this would be romantic.
In “Woe Me the Money” we have Enid starting to truly face the fact that if she wolfs out, she never might return to her human form. And she has this exchange with Wednesday at the Lupin cages where she confesses that Wednesday is her pack and Wednesday returns the sentiment by promising to hunt Enid down and bring her back to her former self. That’s romantic. In the world of Wednesday Addams, that’s a declaration of love. Maybe not romantic love yet or ever. But that is love.

And I know that the episode tried to switch things up by faking us out with Enid and Bruno. But my heart remains with the trust, love, and pack that these two have formed with each other. So when Enid does transform, because you don’t just drop a big problem like that unless it’s going to happen, Wednesday is going to be the key to bringing Enid back. Calling it now.
Onto the Principal Dort of it all, I knew he was the most dangerous individual at Nevermore when he blackmailed Bianca in Wednesday Season 2 Episode 1 and threatened to make her lose her scholarship and the only home that she had. And “Woe Me the Money” pulls back the mask of Dort and shows how truly terrifying he is. Bianca witnessed something terrifying and then regained her power by trusting Wednesday and getting Dort to speak the truth before he got stoned by Ajax.
Which, let’s talk about Bianca and Ajax.

After being rebuffed by Enid, I thought Ajax was going to disappear into the background. And I’m glad that he didn’t. Giving him and Bianca moments where they are having adventures separate from everything that’s happening with Wednesday, enriches the show as a whole. And I also really like to see the way that they leaned against each other and that when Bianca needed someone, Ajax was there, ready to have her back no matter what.
I’m just saying, if Wednesday wants to explore a new facet with Bianca, I would love to see her get swept off her feet by someone who has stepped up.
Then there’s Wednesday.
I’m glad that Wednesday told her grandmother off and hit her back with the same energy that the grandmother had been giving Morticia with her barbs. But I will admit that I’m disappointed that it took the grandmother being rude to her father for Wednesday to speak up. And it’s especially frustrating because the show has framed Morticia as the one interacting with her daughter the most. But talking bad about Gomez crossed the line for our lead? Nah. Talk to your mom Wednesday and give her the same grace you’re giving your dad.

And finally, I want to talk about the blossoming friendship between Enid and Agnes.
I haven’t liked Agnes. She was a little stalker who was obsessed with an idealized version of Wednesday. She never really saw Wednesday. But in the last couple episodes I think Enid and Wednesday were being too mean to her. And I think the show did a good job at giving Agnes a moment of vulnerability that ended with Enid telling her to just be herself. Being a teenager is hard. I can’t imagine combining that with having powers and being an outcast.
When Enid and Agnes stepped out on the dance floor, it was giving Anna and Elsa from Frozen. And I loved it. They looked beautiful and the Lady Gaga song really fit with what they were doing. And it was a great way to move things along with Dort, even though I don’t believe he would just not feel that watch being removed from his jacket. I had to let TV magic excuse that one.

Overall Wednesday Season 2 Episode 7 “Woe Me the Money” is a well structured conclusion to the Principal Dort arc. Now the real bad guys step into the picture: Isaac and Francoise. Because those two are the real evil. They’re a pair of siblings who will return from death and kill anyone in their way for each other. And it doesn’t matter how many brains they have to eat or if one feels it’s ok to slap around her own kid. They’re evil.
Now I just want to figure out why Isaac and Francoise are so eager on taking down the Addams’….
Additional thoughts about Wednesday Season 2 Episode 7 “Woe Me the Money”:

- There was an elevated simplicity and elegance to Wednesday’s gala look. It’s an upgrade from the Season 1 Rave’N Dance.
- Also Enid looked ethereal in her outfit with the most beautiful curls.
- Love that Agnes took a risk by being ultra visible on that dance floor while supporting Enid.
- These two are going to be besties. I feel itttt.
- But even by herself, I really like Agnes and how much she’s grown on me as a character. It’s always hard to introduce new characters on an established crew. But Agnes is the right kind of weird outcast that could grow into something bigger. And she can do that while not talking away from the leads of this show aka Wednesday and Enid.
Wednesday Season 2 is now available on Netflix.
