Brilliant Minds Season 2 is getting closer to hitting our screens. With new signings, the new season is getting stronger to continue telling the extraordinary life and work of world-famous author and physician Oliver Sacks and his team of interns as they explore the human mind while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
This season, Michael Grassi will still serve as creator, writer, and executive producer. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Jasmine Russ, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis, and Shefali Malhoutra also executive produce. So, with a team behind the cameras that doesn’t change, here’s everything we know about NBC’s Brilliant Minds Season 2, including the plot, the cast, and the release date.
What’s the plot for Season 2?
Considering what happened at the end of Season 1, Brilliant Minds Season 2 will develop the complicated relationship between Oliver and his father. Oliver believed him dead, and now he’s standing before him, waiting for help with his illness. This situation won’t be easy for Oliver. He will have to figure out if his father just wants his help or to make up for lost time. And if he can forgive him for abandoning him like that. Ultimately, they come face-to-face with the question: Who deserves care?
Season 2 will also address Oliver’s relationship with his mother. Just when they seemed to have found common ground, Oliver discovered that his mother had lied to him for years and allowed him to bear the blame for his father’s supposed death. It remains to be seen if Oliver will be able to forgive his mother for what she did.
Along with this, Brilliant Minds Season 2 will have to show us the current state of Oliver and Josh’s relationship. Recall that, at the end of Season 1, Josh confessed to Oliver that he loved him and invited him to a gala. After learning the truth about his father, Oliver decides not to attend the gala and completely cuts himself off from Josh and the future he could have had with him. Oliver will have to fight to win Josh back, and we’ll soon find out if Josh will accept him back.
Beyond Oliver, Ericka is suffering from anxiety due to the building collapse. Although she tried to hide it from Dana, she noticed. And this will surely be a topic developed in Season 2. Ericka is traumatized by what happened and tries to hide the sun with her finger. Meanwhile, Carol is facing a complaint for misconduct, which led to her suspension. We don’t know exactly who reported Carol, and along with that, in Season 2 we’ll discover if Carol manages to emerge unscathed from this situation and how she deals with it in the meantime.
In addition to those we already know, the team is reinforced with fresh blood that will surely challenge Oliver and the rest of the characters we love.

Who will be returning?
All our favorite characters are returning for a new adventure! We’ll see Zachary Quinto as Dr. Oliver Wolf, Tamberla Perry as Dr. Carol Pierce, Ashleigh LaThrop as Ericka Kinney, Alex MacNicoll as Dr. Van Markus, Aury Krebs as Dr. Dana Dang, Spence Moore II as Dr. Jacob Nash, Teddy Sears as Dr. Josh Nichols, and Donna Murphy as Dr. Muriel Landon. Also, the last two episodes of Season 1 introduced Mandy Patinkin as Oliver’s father, Dr. Noah Wolf. He will also return for Season 2, although we don’t know if he will be a guest star or a regular.
Who will be joining Season 2 of Brilliant Minds?
A few days ago, we announced the signing of Brian Altemus and John Clarence Steward to play two new roles. Additionally, according to Variety, Bellamy Young is also joining Brilliant Minds Season 2 as a recurring guest star. She will play Dr. Amelia Frederick, director of Hudson Oaks, a mental health facility. Dr. Frederick is well-versed in the problems of the healthcare system. And, although she has been practicing medicine for many years, she still has the energy to fight. Even with Oliver, since they will be adversaries.
Thanks to Deadline, we know that Al Calderon is joining Season 2 as a series regular. He will play nurse Scotty Silva, who, according to the character description, “runs the hospital and looks great doing it. With charisma to spare, he is widely recognized as the mayor of Bronx General. His warm, funny, and outgoing charm may or may not be the reason he knows everything about everyone at work.”
Finally, according to Deadline, Porsha Williams, Connor Tomlinson, Molly Bernard, and Laura Vandervoort have signed on for Brilliant Minds Season 2 as guest stars. Williams will appear in the premiere playing Bitsy, a wealthy Upper West Side housewife who visits Dr. Carol Pierce in her private practice. She knows all the gossip about the city’s medical boards, so we assume she’ll be key to Carol’s situation.
Vandervoort will also appear in the premiere playing Cynthia Grudko, the wife of an MMA fighter and mother of two. When her husband, Tommy, begins to experience strange symptoms, Cynthia will be by his side, defending him. This will cause her to clash with her trainer. Bernard will play Lauren Brooks in Episode 2, a young professional looking for love who suffers a mental health crisis while filming a reality dating show. In Episode 3, we’ll see Tomlinson as Tom, who lives in a group home and loves spy stories. He will meet the team as they investigate a medical mystery.

Where is the Trailer for Season 2?
Here’s the trailer for Season 2, and we love it!
In the trailer, we see some new team members in action for the first time. We also get a glimpse into the unusual medical cases Oliver and the rest of the team will face in the new batch of episodes. While the trailer gives few clues as to where our characters stand, it does hint that Carol and Oliver’s friendship remains everything, while Josh, despite having his heart broken by Oliver, can’t help but care about him.
However, the end of the trailer left us with our hearts in our throats. Did Oliver break? Is he in a mental institution, or was this just a case that got too complicated? Either way, what’s certain is that everyone has a breaking point, and it seems Oliver has reached his.
