We’re back! In Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 4 ‘Lady Liberty,’ Oliver and Nichols try to figure out how to adapt to Josh’s new position, while Erika’s trauma gets the best of her, and Dana discovers an unexpected ally in Charlie. Ready?
Here we go!
Self-Imposed Loneliness

Erika tries to handle everything on her own in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 4 ‘Lady Liberty,’ and it just doesn’t go well. She starts the day with the decision to quit taking pills and overcome her addiction. However, as the day would show, that’s not something she can do alone because it always ends with her relapsing. Erika just needs to realize this and act on it, ASAP.
But how do we get there? Well, Erika’s day reminds her that, even as a doctor, she can’t save everyone. Especially when they don’t want her help. She tries to save Sam, taking on a responsibility as his doctor that isn’t hers. Does Sam need her help? Yes, definitely. But he didn’t ask for it. And Erika doesn’t have the right to force him to do something Sam doesn’t want to do. Nor does she have to take responsibility for him because he’s not her patient.
We truly understand what Erika is trying to do in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 4 ‘Lady Liberty.’ She just wants to help Sam and heal him. Erika has good intentions. But good intentions lead to h**ll. And Erika’s decision puts not only herself but several people at the hospital in danger, in addition to upsetting Sam. So, in trying to do something good, Erika ended up making everything worse. And it’s horrible, and unfair, and frustrating. But sometimes, good intentions aren’t enough.
In reality, Erika’s determination to help Sam in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 4 ‘Lady Liberty’ stems from something much deeper. It’s the trauma of not being able to save that woman by bringing out the best in her. Erika couldn’t help her, despite her knowledge and her medical degree, so now she tries to help everyone she feels needs it. Erika tries to fix the world to somehow make up for not being able to help that woman during the collapse. Only then will Erika feel better and be able to forget it, forget her.
But things don’t work that way. No matter how hard Erika tries, she’ll never be able to forget her. Erika just has to understand that it wasn’t her fault. But she can’t do that alone. That’s why we were disappointed that Oliver, knowing there’s much more to what Erika did and just when she was opening up to someone for the first time, just told her to get over it. Is he serious? Why doesn’t he help her? Oliver’s supposed to be her mentor and is there for much more than teaching her medical procedures. We’re disappointed with him. We said what we said.

Dangerous Liaisons

We don’t like that Charlie and Dana got closer in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 4 ‘Lady Liberty.’ We’re having a lot of issues with Dana right now, but no one talks to her like that. Not on our watch! We want to kick Charlie’s b**tt for being so cruel and making Dana stop being herself, even for a moment. Yes, Dana is talkative, friendly, and jokes around, but that’s who she is. That has nothing to do with her not taking her job seriously. And this guy has no right to clip her wings.
Besides, Dana would never make fun of or joke around in front of a patient or in a situation that doesn’t lend itself to it. Contrary to what this jerk seems to think, Dana knows when she can joke around and when she can’t. And we absolutely don’t believe Charlie’s attempt to soften his cruelty toward Dana by trying to praise her and joke around with her—or anything like that. Just not. Charlie can’t be cruel for a second and then tell her he’s doing it for her own good.
Dana should have stopped him and told him to f**ck off because she is who she is and isn’t going to change. Just like Oliver did with Josh—sort of. But she confided her secret to him. And we don’t like that at all. We’re sure Charlie will betray her. He’ll keep the information to himself to use whenever it suits him. Mark our words.
Of course, Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 4 ‘Lady Liberty’ served as further proof that Charlie is and always will be a terrible doctor. Not only does he not care about his patients, but he also enjoys power too much. It seems like it’s all he cares about. Charlie loves playing God and deciding which patients get treated or how people should behave. He revels in it. So we just hope his arrogance is his downfall and he gets his license to practice medicine revoked because that guy should never be around a patient.

Other Stuff in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 4 ‘Lady Liberty’

- We love Oliver and Josh’s verbal spats and bickering!
- And how can a discussion about economics and medical procedures be hot and sexy?
- Seriously, they need to sleep together. Now.
- But we know it’s not the time…yet.
- Oliver really held back for Josh.
- But we love that he made it clear that he would follow some of the rules…but he wouldn’t stop being himself. Oliver was very right to set boundaries.
- Did Charlie really take charge unilaterally? We hate him so much. Why doesn’t Oliver stop him? We need him to.
- Dr. Thorne was right about everything he told Erika. And she should have at least consulted with Oliver about what she was going to do with Sam. But we don’t blame her for bypassing Charlie and ignoring all the c**ap he said.
- Erika needs help. Dana knows something’s up…but she didn’t find the right reason.
- Although we do think Erika is still upset that Dana ratted Carol out, she’s just too busy with everything else on her plate right now to realize it.
- We hope Dana had a better reason than “I care about this job” for ratting Carol out. That’s weak and not a real reason. We’re still waiting…
- Carol is stunning in that dress!
- We love that Nichols knew all the gossip.
- We knew Charlie had something to do with what was happening to Oliver in a few months! We don’t know if he entered that mental institution of his own free will, but we do know he’s in solitary confinement and they won’t let him leave. Why?
- We just hope Josh doesn’t swallow the garbage that came out of Charlie’s mouth. But we don’t like the fact that he trusted him with running an entire department…
- In a dire situation, Oliver trusted Josh to have his back and save him. Just saying…
