Stumble will bring a new team to TV when it premieres on NBC next month. The single-cam sports comedy series stars Jenn Lyon as Courteney Potter, who has to start anew at a junior college she’s never heard of. The Texas-set mockumentary “about the ridiculously high stakes competitive world of junior college cheer” premieres on Friday, November 7, at 8:30 pm on NBC. The episodes will then be available to stream the next day on Peacock. Stumble comes from creators, writers, and executive producers Jeff Astrof and Liz Astrof.
The new trailer shows Courteney explain, “Coaching college cheer has been my life’s work. I have put together the most disciplined teams to ever take the mat.” Stumble quickly makes it clear that this new team is not one of those; this is not that story. Instead, it’s one where the pyramid crumbles behind Courteney. “I was one championship shy of being the winningest coach in college cheer history. Until that dumb video.” The video shows her drinking with and body-shaming her team, which isn’t the best for her reputation.

What Is Stumble About?
After being fired, her former Assistant Coach, Tammy, played by recurring guest star Kristin Chenoweth, takes over. Courteney starts over by assembling a team at Heådlston State Junior College. The new cheer squad consists of Krystal, Courteney’s star flyer from her former team, a football player, a cheerleading veteran who never graduated from college, and a stumbler named Madonna, who has narcolepsy. You can read more about the characters’ descriptions here.
Courteney admits that they’re not perfect or particularly good, which seems like a big deal, given her wall of trophies. But Stumble’s trailer teases that winning may not be the only appeal of the show or Courteney’s new team. “Cheer is so much more than just being on a team. It’s being a part of a family,” Courteney says. Prospective fans will have to tune in to Stumble next month to see if Courteney’s new team can make it to Cheer Camp and, eventually, Nationals.
Alongside Lyon, the show stars Taran Killam, Ryan Pinkston, Jarrett Austin Brown, Anissa Borrego, Arianna Davis, Taylor Dunbar, and Georgie Murphy. Executive producer Jeff Blitz also directs the series. Dana Honor and Monica Aldama executive produce. Defining Eve Productions produces Stumble. The series comes from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
