We really enjoyed Boston Blue‘s third episode, “History” because they gave us another interesting case between Danny and Lena. And, as the title implies for Season 1 Episode 3, it allowed us to learn more about Lena and Sarah’s personal lives. We also have a new appreciation for Mae. So let’s dive into Boston Blue “History”!

Partners and Romance?

This week’s case began with Danny and Lena investigating a body that was found on the wharf. Danny and Lena quickly find the cause of her death: drugs. Specifically, a drug called “Killer Whale.” This leads us to meeting Lena’s old partner: Detective Brian Rodgers. We definitely have thoughts on Brian, and we’ll get to that later. Brian and Lena realize that the victim is the sister of Sully, who has been clean for 18 months.
It was heartbreaking watching Sully learn about his sister’s death. He and his sister came from a long line of drug addicts, and they were supposed to end the disease. Addiction is brutal and it not only affects the addict but everyone around them. We’re still cheering for Sully, though. We hope he stays clean for not only himself, but his son as well.
Throughout “History” it’s also clear that Brian and Lena have chemistry.
Even Sarah was pushing Lena to ask him out. Lena says she doesn’t date her partner, but Brian isn’t her partner anymore. So, we’re kind of rooting for these two. Brian seems like a good guy, even if he disagreed with Danny throughout the entire episode. But let’s be honest: we would be a little worried if Brian didn’t fight with Danny. And Brian definitely isn’t bad to look at, either. We already kind of love him, and we hope to see more of him, soon.
We also really loved that Danny encouraged Lena to go out with Brian. Danny and Lena haven’t been partners for very long, but he wants to see her happy. And Danny may or may not have experience with having feelings for a partner. Basically, it’s amazing how close Danny and Lena have gotten just over three episodes.
Step-motherhood

While we learned more about Sarah’s personal life in “History,” we weren’t as excited about her romantic life as we were about Lena’s. We can’t put our finger on it, but there was just something missing about Sarah’s storyline. Plus, her relationship with Phoebe seemed off. We’re going to have to see more of Sarah’s boyfriend to decide how we feel. Right now, we just don’t care that much about the boyfriend or his daughter.
What we do care about is how this led to a conversation with Sarah and Mae. Even though Sarah is technically Mae’s stepdaughter, she’s her daughter. You don’t have to be blood to be family, and we love how Boston Blue is showcasing a blended family. Being a stepparent isn’t easy, but Mae seems to have figured it out. Maybe Sarah will, too.
Speaking of Mae, we really respect her after her case this week. Without Mae, the victim may have not gotten justice just because she had worked in the adult entertainment industry in her past. A history in the adult entertainment industry doesn’t mean she wasn’t a victim here.
Hopefully, we’ll see more of Mae fighting for justice for people who deserve it.
Nerdy Superhero Cops?

Sean and Jonah had their own case in Season 2 Episode 3 with trying to locate Murray, a 24-year-old who was reported missing by his neighbor. Jonah promised his neighbor everything would be okay. But, look, we’ve watched enough cop and medical shows to know you never promise that everything will be okay. In this case, it was. But Jonah should learn from his mistake her and not do that again.
These two also spend the episode tracking a scavenger hunt that Murray was involved in. We liked that the entire Silver clan helped figure out the clues. But Danny also tried to give Sean and Jonah advice: it’s dangerous playing detectives. Danny would have done the exact same thing as Sean and Jonah, but he does have a point. Sean and Jonah aren’t detectives.
Patrol cops have a role (a very important role), but it’s critical that the rules are followed. We would hate for something bad to happen in the future because Sean and Jonah didn’t call in a case to their superiors. Although we do have to say, we really enjoyed the scavenger hunt. It was fun.
Other Thoughts:
- Maria Baez! We’ll never get tired of seeing her. You may get tired of us writing about her, but sorry, not sorry. We love how happy Danny and Maria are. We need more of these two together ASAP.
- It was cute that Brian gave Danny twix for Lena at the end. It was like his way of telling Danny he approves.
- “My grandfather told me never to trust anything that carries its house around with it.” It’s hilarious that Danny was afraid of a crab.
- “You’ll make a great mom.” “Stepmom.” “Is there any difference?”
