We’re six episodes into season two of DOC and honestly, talk about a season two glow up. Season one is not even something that I think about, because DOC in its sophomore season feels like a brand new show. The characters haven’t felt the same, but that means there is a lot of character growth. DOC, season 2, episode 6, Saints and Sinners proved that there is a little bit of both in all of the characters.
DOC is not like any other medical drama or procedural on television. It manages to push the boundary in a different way. If it ever gets to the point where they are outrageous, I would be disappointed. And why is that? Well because it’s so fresh and keeps moving forward in the best way.
That way being slow and steady, so it wins the race.

MAITRA IS IN CHARGE
While I haven’t always like Maitra, I do feel that her character keeps growing. It is her characters growth that really is making every scene she’s in feel natural and as if it is a whole new show. It’s like that with a lot of characters, but not on the level that her scenes are.
Maitra still is annoying to me – because she still acts as though she is above everyone. She is put in charge and I get that Joan thinks that she’d be great, but I do think that is in part because she can be as deceiving.
I want to keep having my feelings about her change in a positive way. Even though we grow to know more about her and her values, as well as her passion for being a doctor.
But she’s so distrustful of any patient and that makes me worry. Doctors need to actually listen versus preconceived notions. I do get that there are people who use the medical system, but I also know that are people who don’t. Maitra’s ability to only see the worst in people is a lot to handle.
She tries to coach TJ on hard truths. I don’t think that she’s right that people need tough love – I think people need love.
THE PRIEST
I am not a religious person, but I do have faith in things. I do have faith in people. And I think that spiritual people do give us guidance when we need it – even if we’re not expecting it.
Amy has to treat a patient that is a priest. He’s been bleeding out of his eyes and yet, he’s still giving guidance and he still is giving all he has. He’s been the Priest that has been there for most of the people in this show.
He was one of the first people to visit Amy after her accident. He has been there for them in their times of need. I can see with all of them that he means a lot and him being in the hospital is taxing on all of their souls.
He’s been so understanding of Amy and all she’s gone through. He’s given her so much love and she doesn’t want to give up on him and I don’t think she should. I do believe that he’s going to be the person to guide her the right way.
Amy is able to help him to recover and I loved that so much. I loved that he was able to guide her but she was able to guide him also. I think that he was sent there – to the hospital to help Amy find a way.
THE PRISONER
A code orange is apparently when a prisoner is on the floor. The man on the floor arrives throwing up blood and well in TMI, it’s coming out both ends. The prisoner is apparently drinking toilet bowl cleaner.
Maitra doesn’t really want to hear him or believe in him. TJ, on the other hand, knows that they need to talk to him to figure out what he’s done and why. When he tells them, that he did it so he could get to the hospital to see his Mom. She’s dying of cancer and it’s really bad. Seeing her refuse to want to see him made my heart break.
On his way out, on his way back to prison, they were able to deliver the news that his Mom passed away. He starts talking about his Mom and sister. He tells them about how his sister died because of him. How he was lost because of it. He wanted his Mom to know all of that and how he feels.
Maitra tries to comfort him, but she’s kinda cold on the delivery. Not to say what she said was wrong, but it was a little rude and wrong. Patients need the truth, yes. But they need it said with grace and kindly. Not like they are being slapped.

UNOS
I have to say that all of the drama of this is a lot. Michael making himself the victim and throwing him under the bus to save everyone elses backside infuriates me. He didn’t do anything wrong – in my eyes – he did what he had to do in order to save a lot of people.
I know that there is a lot of protocols that everyone has, but Michael shouldn’t have to give up his job for this. There were a lot of people involved. And it breaks my soul for him.
What I do think is that the board is the worst for always looking out for themselves versus seeing the bigger picture. They are gross.
Jake takes a risk and fakes a report to save Michael. It’s something I didn’t expect, but I am glad he did. Two great men looking out for each other. Does the hospital get their status back? Yes. Does Michael get to stay? Yes. And him staying was important.

KATIE
I can’t even imagine what she’s been through and having to tell Amy what the snowglobe has triggered her in a way that she doesn’t want to explain. She doesn’t want to go back and for Amy to tell her that she has to – well no. That’s not the way to go. Though I do get that Amy wants to know what happened isn’t there somethings that she needs to let go of – because it is for her daughter. If she can’t do that then she is doing everything wrong.
Amy had spoken to Amos and he was able to talk to her about Katie, Danny, and grief. Which is heartbreaking.
I do believe that everything happens for a reason and the way that Amy and Katie are able to be there for each other was what we all needed. That healing and that forgiveness that they needed to give each other – it’s gotta be hard.
I cried my eyes out seeing them at Danny’s grave and seeing how destroyed that they both were. At first I did not know what I would think, but in the end of it – I realized that the two of them going to Danny’s grave was probably the most healing moment for the both of them.
