If there’s one thing we miss about Game of Thrones, it’s having Emilia Clarke on our screens. The Queen of Westeros is back with PONIES, and we’re already sold! Especially after seeing the first look at the Peacock show. Like, Clarke in a spy series? TAKE OUR MONEY!
Clarke will play Bea and will share the screen with Haley Lu Richardson, who will play Twila. They’ll be joined by Adrian Lester as Dane, Artjom Gilz as Andrei, Nicholas Podany as Ray, Petro Ninovskyi as Sasha, and Vic Michaelis as Cheryl. The series is created by Susanna Fogel and David Iserson. Fogel is directing the series, with Iserson as showrunner. Jessica Rhoades executive produces for Pacesetter Productions, and Alison Mo Massey co-executive producer, along with Katherine Bridle. Universal Television are producers.
As for the show, it is set in Moscow, 1977, where two “PONIES” (“persons of no interest” in intelligence speak) work anonymously as secretaries in the American Embassy. That is, until their husbands are killed under mysterious circumstances in the USSR, and the pair become CIA operatives.
According to the synopsis, Bea (Emilia Clarke) is “an over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants”. Her cohort, Twila (Haley Lu Richardson), is “a small-town girl who is as abrasive as she is fearless.” Together, they work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that made them widows in the first place.
We can’t wait for this adventure in the midst of the Cold War!
