Here we go!
Truths Revealed in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 10 ‘The Resident’

The confrontation between Oliver and Charlie in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 10 ‘The Resident,’ had us on the edge of our seats! At first, we were surprised by Charlie’s goodwill in wanting to make things right with Oliver. It really seemed like he was finally aware that he had made a mistake and was willing to learn from it. But what he did was too serious, and naturally, Oliver wasn’t going to make it easy for him. But all that soon falls apart when Charlie brings out his arrogance and, even more surprisingly, his rage, his hatred. It’s a very well-contained hatred, but it’s still there.
And honestly, after that, we would have done the same as Oliver. And we understand Josh’s point, but we don’t think he’s right about this. It’s not that Charlie has a different opinion and is arrogant about it; it’s that he doesn’t work as a team and that he disobeyed a direct order from Oliver by administering an unauthorized treatment to a patient.
That’s too serious for Josh to just tell Oliver that he’s in charge of “correcting Charlie’s behavior.” Some behaviors can’t be corrected and are too serious to overlook. And this is one of them. Frankly, we expected more from Josh in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 10 ‘The Resident.’ So we understand why Oliver removes Charlie from the case. It’s not the fairest thing to do, but it’s the only thing he can do to try to make it clear to Charlie that his behavior is unacceptable.
However, later in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 10 ‘The Resident’ all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place. Everything seemed too personal for Charlie, so…we knew the patient Oliver couldn’t help had to be his mother! The way he handled Ana and Jorge’s case, the way he stepped out of line, the way he challenged Oliver when he asked if he hadn’t made a mistake that prolonged his patient’s suffering…it all makes sense now. So, a high five for us!
And the truth is, a large part of us understands Charlie. He hates Oliver because he blames him for his mother’s suffering, her death, and for ruining his family. And now that he knows him, Charlie believes Oliver hasn’t changed at all, that he’s still selling snake oil to his patients and making them suffer unnecessarily. That’s why he can’t stand being in his presence or being corrected or scolded by him, of all people. Everyone holds Oliver in high esteem, but to Charlie, he’s a fraud. He’s a murderer. But is Oliver guilty of Charlie’s mother’s death?

Guilty or Not Guilty?

Well, as Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 10 ‘The Resident,’ makes clear, it’s not a simple matter. Oliver was young and inexperienced, so he couldn’t distinguish between a miracle and a real chance of healing his patient. This doesn’t excuse what happened or the pain Charlie and his father suffered, but it makes it understandable. Oliver never intended to harm Charlie’s mother, and that makes the difference.
Furthermore, he advised Charlie’s mother to stop, but she refused. So no, in our view, Oliver isn’t guilty of that woman’s death. But Oliver learned from his mistake, from his inexperience, which is why what Charlie did outraged him so much. It wasn’t just that Charlie disobeyed him, but that he made the same mistake Oliver made. That said, we understand that Charlie someone to blame for the destruction of his family. Charlie has every right to feel that way.
However, we still don’t understand Charlie’s intention in infiltrating Oliver’s team. He had a plan, but what was it? To provoke a crisis in Oliver so that he would end up in a mental institution, or was he just taking advantage of the situation? Oliver isn’t in the best place right now, but he’s learning to deal with his feelings in a healthier way.
So, Oliver knows what he’s talking about when, in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 10 ‘The Resident,’ he tells Charlie that not confronting trauma can ruin his life. In the end, it almost did to him the first time he didn’t face what happened with his father—he learned to survive, but he wasn’t living. And Oliver almost let the trauma of his father’s abandonment do the same. Is Charlie’s plan to push Oliver to the limit by using his father’s abandonment? Did Charlie really reveal Oliver’s father’s whereabouts to him, or is it all a trap? So many unanswered questions…we need to know what’s going to happen!

Achieving the Impossible

We are so proud of Erika and Oliver in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 10 ‘The Resident.’ Erika never gave up on Sam and did everything in her power to help him get his family back and ensure he got the liver he needed. She fought for him when Sam couldn’t and wouldn’t. And she succeeded in saving him. In every sense. He even stood up to the head of transplants to secure Sam a chance. But, unfortunately, those guys aren’t driven by sentimentality. They simply don’t care about people, only numbers…and their reputation.
And that’s where Oliver comes in. He not only went to that gala to support Erika’s request, but when everything went wrong, he got on that stage and engaged that guy in such a way that he had no choice but to back down. The old Oliver would never have done something like that, would never have connected with a resident in that way, or done anything to support them. And that hug between Oliver and Erika…that’s character development. And it got us emotional.
So yeah, we’re proud mother hens of our chicks after watching Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 10 ‘The Resident.’ And we love that what was between Erika and Jacob has risen from the ashes. This time, it feels real and serious. But precisely because of that, it hurts and worries us. If Jacob stays, he’d be giving up his dream job, but if he leaves…he’d be giving up Erika. And that breaks our hearts.
