This week’s Boston Blue was intense! Season 2 Episode 8 “In the Name of the Father, And of the Son …” focused on some very important topics and forced the Silvers to make tough calls. And we’re so proud of how they handled everything.
Also, Lena and Danny’s case became personal for Lena and lead to her question her relationship with Mae. We review.

Children and Their Parents

Even though the title of the episode is “In the Name of the Father, And of the Son …,” Lena and Mae also had some disagreements. Mae was hard on Lena, and she could sense that it was more than just Mae doing her job.
We’re proud of Lena for asking Mae why she treats her differently than Sarah and Jonah. We also understand why Mae feels so protective of Lena, but Lena’s not a little girl anymore. She doesn’t need to be protected by her mom. Hopefully, Mae will understand this going forward and not be so hard on Lena.
The “fathers and sons” part of this episode related to the case. But you could tell this was personal for both Lena and Danny, but especially Danny. The father losing his son really affected him. Danny couldn’t image losing either one of his sons. Together, they both went the extra mile to prove that Evelyn wasn’t innocent here. And they did amazing detective work and were able to help give the victim’s father some closure. We’re so proud.
As a sidenote, Lena, Danny, and Mae’s story kind of reminded us of the old days of Blue Bloods.
Danny even mentioned how he would fight with his sister over getting enough evidence for a warrant. But we’re glad that this spinoff is staying true to the original show’s themes of working with family and having to separate personal and professional issues. And we like how these issues always get brought up at the Silver family dinner table just like they did at the Reagan family dinners.
Alcohol and Mental Health

The other main story in this week’s Boston Blue was how everyone seemed to be willing to overlook the firefighter’s drinking and give him a pass.
First of all, he was drinking and driving, which is NEVER okay. If you want to drink, get a friend to drive you. Get an Uber, a Lyft, a taxi, take the bus… whatever. Just do not get behind the wheel. Second, it’s clear that this firefighter was depressed and needed therapy. If they had just looked the other way or given him a pass, that wouldn’t help him at all. It would actually enable his behavior. He would keep drinking and maybe kill himself or someone else next time he chose to drink and drive.
We’re so proud of Jonah and Sarah for not backing down. They stuck to what they knew was right even though they were getting threatened to look the other way. They knew that the firefighter should face the consequences of his actions. He shouldn’t be given a pass just because of who he was. We also liked the speech that Sarah gave to the cops that focused on mental health. Depression can cause drinking, and drinking can make depression worse. That speech may have made someone else realize they need help, too.
Also, can Jonah and Sean’s supervisor be fired or written up? We can’t believe he was mad because they arrested the firefighter for drinking and driving. This is why cops have bad names. Because of people like him. We wanted to punch him.
Other Thoughts:

- Lena and Sarah are quickly becoming some of our favorite women on TV. They have good instincts, they fight for what’s right, and they care about their families. We love them.
- We’re glad that Jonah confronted his bully. It seemed like he earned the cop’s respect at the end of the episode.
- Seth’s daughter’s drinking and partying is a problem. We don’t blame Seth for being worried. Hopefully, talking to her about their concerns instead of just punishing her will help her make better choices in the future.
