2025 is almost done, and no Virgin River Season 7. But what does this mean for the next season of the show? When is it coming?
It feels like just yesterday that Season 6 premiered, and now we’re here waiting for Season 7. But when will the season premiere? Virgin River is, after all, not a special effects-heavy show, so post-production typically isn’t long. So does that mean there’s a chance it’s coming in the next few months?
Maybe. But likely no earlier than March. Even if the show is done, with Netflix throwing everything behind the last season of Stranger Things, there was no reason to premiere the season late in the year. And January and February will be Bridgerton. But what about March?
Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Mel Sheridan on the show, teased the possibility of Season 7 coming earlier than we thought possible before the season even wrapped. “I feel like I’m on day 857 of filming Season 7,” Breckenridge said on a post on her Instagram stories. “We’re almost done, can you believe it? I can’t even believe it. Almost to the finish line. I keep wondering if they’re going to put the show out this year. What do you guys think? Probably, right? If they have it, they’ll probably drop it … this year, 2025. I don’t know any information. I’m the last to know.”
She was wrong, because we did not get the show in 2025. But we can still extrapolate from her words that it’s coming sooner rather than later. Breckenridge’s “if they have it, they’ll probably drop it” common-sense idea didn’t really seem to fit with the streamer’s normal scheduling. And sure, Netflix doesn’t really go all out in promoting anything these days, but we’ve still heard nothing official about Season 7 for Virgin River, and we would likely have heard something if it was coming, let’s say, in January.
Chances are, then, that we’ll actually see the show after Bridgerton, perhaps as early as March. However, there’s still an outside chance we get it in the middle of the two Bridgerton parts. Netflix has yet to announce a Valentine’s Day release. Newlyweds Mel and Jack would be a nice treat for the holiday. Especially with the season reportedly set to focus more on the two of them.
We have also yet to hear about the possible Virgin River prequel, following Mel’s parents. The two appeared in Season 6 to sort of introduce what the prequel would be like. But is anyone as excited about that as the writers seem to be? Can they offer the same kind of entertainment Virgin River offers?
Season 6 of the show ended in quite a cliffhanger, with Charmaine seemingly kidnapped, and the possibility that Mel and Jack will adopt Marley’s baby. So, if the show really is coming sooner rather than later, we won’t complain. We just won’t be holding our breath, either. We’ve learned to be patient.
