We’re back! After the holiday break, High Potential Season 2 Episode 8 ‘The One That Got Away: Part Two,’ picks up where the previous episode left off, pitting Morgan against Rhys to determine who’s smarter. Meanwhile, Karadec demonstrates his confidence in Morgan. Ready?
Here we go!
The Thief and the Consultant

High Potential Season 2 Episode 8 ‘The One That Got Away: Part Two’ focuses squarely on the case of the week, although this time, we are owed one, as we needed to know what was going on with Rhys and that painting. And it was truly entertaining to watch the back-and-forth between Rhys and Morgan. She tried to pretend everything was fine so Rhys wouldn’t find out she was investigating him. But as her suspicions grew, the pretense crumbled, and a confrontation became inevitable.
Rhys, for his part, knew something was up. Morgan didn’t fool him for a moment, but he tried hard to pretend she did. The two spent the entire episode in an entertaining game of cat and mouse. So, when the confrontation finally came, Rhys came out on top. He’s not a man who can be caught off guard, not even someone like Morgan. But that’s the worst thing anyone can do: underestimate her.
Morgan knew it was him, so she knew where he’d be. However, Morgan ended up letting him get away in High Potential Season 2 Episode 8 ‘The One That Got Away: Part Two.’ Was it the right decision? We have mixed feelings. On the one hand, Rhys did the right thing by returning the painting to its rightful owner, and the legal route would have been slower. But on the other hand, we don’t think Rhys is the Robin Hood figure he claimed to be to Morgan.
That said, we don’t think this will be the last we see of Rhys. His storyline has potential for more, and there’s definitely a spark with Morgan. And we understand why. Rhys is dangerous, adventurous, unpredictable… who wouldn’t fall for someone like that? In a way, he’s the complete opposite of Karadec and very similar to Morgan. But precisely for that reason, he’s not the ideal match for her.

The best thing High Potential Season 2 Episode 8 ‘The One That Got Away: Part Two’ gave us was seeing how Karadec knows Morgan and how he trusted her completely. From the first second she left the crime scene, he knew something was up. And he went after Morgan. When she told him her suspicions, Karadec didn’t hesitate for a second. He believed her. Even without proof, even though the investigation seemed to point to someone else and not Rhys, Karadec knew.
And we loved that Karadec stood up to the captain for Morgan. She’s his partner. That’s why he signed on, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He either investigates with her or he doesn’t investigate at all. Karadec even hid his suspicions about Rhys from the captain. For Morgan’s sake. Because she asked him to. And this says a lot coming from someone who follows the rules and the chain of command so strictly as Karadec.
When Karadec had to choose between following the rules and obeying his superior and Morgan, his choice was clear. He chose her. He always would. And that speaks volumes.

Other Stuff in High Potential Season 2 Episode 8 ‘The One That Got Away: Part Two’

- Our favorite captain was a bit obtuse at first when he didn’t want to let Morgan back on the case, but we understand. He has to make it clear that defying him has consequences. The important thing is that he let her in when he had to, and then they made peace… sort of. But we still don’t trust him.
- Karadec’s reaction upon learning that Morgan and Rhys were in a, shall we say, compromising situation is priceless. It’s clear he wasn’t thrilled.
- Just as unhappy as seeing her talking to the captain. We’ll dream of that final look.
- Karadec’s fierce determination to make it clear that Morgan is his partner and that he needs her has us celebrating.
- The painting is where it belongs.
- We don’t like that dangerous man stalking Morgan at all…
- We hope Arthur is alright.
