Raise your hand if you have been personally victimized by Evan Adams abs. And if you are wondering, my hand is raised. They distract and make me unable to concentrate on anything else. It’s the abs, the smile and the tone of voice. The man makes you unable to function, and for that we are all blessed. Kissing the Wrong Brother is a master class in being a love coach, led by Evan Adams charm. So yes, the abs may be a distraction, but that’s okay. Victimize us all you want ab – we’re never going to complain about that.
Randomly looking for something to watch, I decided to open Dramabox and look again. I saw that trademark smile on a poster and you didn’t have to ask me twice to press play. Television is an escape from reality and I do count watching verticals as television. I know its series, but I like to look at it as if I am watching a movie that allows me lots of breaks.

At first this vertical had me watching through my fingers. Second hand embarrassment is a true thing. Aria (Catherine Wilson) is a “nerd” who has a big crush on her best friend, Ben. Ben is definitely nerd material and a try hard, but she thinks the world of him and so hey… do your thing Aria. She’s gathered the courage to tell him how she feels.
One thing that I have learned a long time ago is that you never surprise anyone with feelings. Walking into a room, you have to make sure of who you are talking to. Aria doesn’t and as she says what is on her mind and heart, out walk Bens brother, Miles.
Now I am going to need to know how it is that verticals make a man look sexy in a towel. I wish that they would make it less obvious that there are undergarments there. Yes, people watching want the illusion that the person is naked underneath. I don’t make the rules, I just tell you what I think. No one is asking to see anyone naked. I am asking that verticals realize the things that they are overlooking certain things. The continuity and the illusion that they can build – these are things that are going to make people want to watch. And if people are watching and what they see are all the mistakes that someone is making, they will turn it off.

But back to the story.
Miles is sweet to Aria. He’s quick to listen, and after Aria finds out that Ben has a girlfriend, he’s supportive of her. He listens when she feels like no one sees her. But, you can tell that he does.

Aria has lived her life not caring, but also caring what people think. She’s made it known that she’s not trying to change who she is for anyone. And hey, I am all about embracing who you are and not letting the outside world get to you. Only the outside world does get to her. Aria is relentlessly bullied and tries to remain strong. She really likes Ben, but what bothers me is that they are supposed to be friends and he just sits there and does nothing while she is relentlessly tortured. That’s not someone to like, Aria. That’s someone to despise.
Ben has shown his stupidity (and yes, I know that’s not nice to say) over and over again. He’s made her feel inferior and even when she tries to be there for him, he makes it known that he doesn’t want her.
But Miles, he does want her. He really likes Aria. He thinks that she’s beautiful and even though he’s volunteered to be her love coach he finds himself falling for her. They can laugh at the same things, they challenge each other, and they both want to let down their walls with each other. She is comfortable with him, in a way that she isn’t comfortable with Ben. Miles wants to be near Aria and he really likes the looks of pride that she gives him. Especially because Miles is dealing with a lot internally.
Vertical dramas are interesting because there are parts of them that feel like they could happen and other times it is like WTF is this. This one didn’t feel so far fetched. Yes, its soap operaish but aren’t all of them? That’s why we love them.
Well why I do.

Miles opens up and lets Aria know what is really going on with him. The nerd was able to get to the man that everyone wanted to be with. It didn’t matter what she looked like on the outside, All that mattered to him was who she was – the person that he knew she wanted to be didn’t matter. He’d support her through everything.
The issue changed suddenly as he took on a role at the school Ben and Aria went to. He was working as a coach for the swim team. Miles and Aria can’t continue their relationship – he’s a coach at the school now. That puts him in the position of a teacher. And while I do hate any storyline that is “teacher and student relationship” – this one made me physically icky. But also I don’t think that either of them realized what him taking on that position was going to do.
Miles had left college and everyone has a lot of theories as to why that happened. Ben says it is that Miles had slept with a professor. However, Miles explains that isn’t true. Aria believes in Miles and doesn’t second guess the things he tells her, but instead offers support. She tells him that she will be by his side for everything.
Don’t you know that this is when Ben decides that he wants to be with Aria? It’s only when Aria is with Miles that Ben is interested. He sees Aria’s confidence grow, her sticking up for herself, and her determination. He tries to put his brother down in her presence under the premise that he’s looking out for her.

What Ben doesn’t get is the burdens that Miles has endured for him without telling him. Ben can think that he’s been abandoned by his brother, but the truth is that his brother had always wanted to save him from ever feeling pain. His love for his brother has been his driving force.
Do I love the whole romance in this story? Yes. Do I love the story about brothers? Absolutely. Do I love how everyone comes together at the end to support Miles? Yes. Because at the end – that’s all that we can do – be there for each other.
There’s a lot more to this story. A lot more that you need to watch to get. At the end of the day what you get is a story about brotherhood, swimming, romance, and how sometimes a love coach may volunteer to help you get with another person, but that will always be the one you want.
Then again we shoulda learned that from the movie Hitch. For now we just know if Evan Adams is the wrong brother, we’d be Kissing The Wrong Brother too.
