Sam Heughan has a new project after Outlander! According to Deadline, he’ll be joining industry heavyweights like Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons in Embassy, a new geopolitical action series. And we’re thrilled!
What is Embassy About?
The synopsis of the show is: “Layla (Kendrick), a sharp and resourceful American diplomat, who faces an impossible choice: protect the U.S. Ambassador (Simmons) or follow his orders to exfiltrate a high-value asset when armed mercenaries storm the U.S. Embassy in London. She’s forced to rely on her instincts and the reluctant help of her battle-hardened ex-fiancé, Connor Wright (Heughan), in the tense hours before extraction.”
Embassy is created and written by Rom Lotan, who is an executive producer alongside Strickland, Ascendant Fox’s Hester Ruoff, Bart Ruspoli, and Matt Mitchell. Turbine’s Daniel Hetzer, Jakob Neuhausser, Justin Thomson, and David Tanner and AGC’s Stuart Ford, Lourdes Diaz, and Miguel A. Palos Jr. It also boasts a top-notch behind-the-scenes team, with Christian Alvart directing two episodes and John Strickland helming the rest. We don’t have to wait long for the show to become a reality. Production begins next month in London and Cologne.
Leaving Jamie Fraser Behind
We’re excited for Heughan but also a little sad. Jamie Fraser is being left behind. And we feel a pang of sadness. That said, Embassy is the perfect series for Heughan to move forward.
This wouldn’t be the first time he will play an action hero. He already did so in SAS: Red Notice and Bloodshot. And he even blended action with comedy in The Spy Who Dumped Me. So we’re happy that Heughan is finding his footing after the end of Outlander.
