9-1-1: Nashville Season 1 Episode 10 “Let It R.I.P.” is all about misunderstandings and letting go. Sometimes literally and other times emotionally. And even though they jostled me around all episode with everything that was happening between Blue and Taylor, it wasn’t a terrible episode. But it wasn’t because of them. What made this episode actually shine is Cammie.

In comparison to the other actors on 9-1-1: Nashville, except Jessica Capshaw as Blythe, Kimberly WIlliams-Paisley is just in another league. That’s why every single moment that her Cammie is on screen feels a little bit more grounded, even when she didn’t understand what the grief group was trying to do with embracing joy in their grief. And the more that this show delves into her grief surrounding her husband Mark, the more that I see the kind of person that she is outside of just being a 9-1-1 operator.
What Nashville does best with Cammie in “Let It R.I.P.” is show that healing isn’t linear. Cammie went to that grief group and took a chance. Then she decided it wasn’t for her and she went back to her old ways of leaving her dead husband voicemails. But that spark to move forward, it was already there. And that whole situation with the baseball and the guy trying to get the ball for his deceased wife, it reinforced that idea inside of her that it was time to let go while also remembering Mark.
I will admit that the only way that Cammie gets better is if she’s in scenes with Blythe. And even though we didn’t see my queen Blythe for long this episode, the moments that we did get made it clear that Cammie isn’t the only person grieving. Blythe also lost her brother. And it’s a simple, yet effective, way of pulling both of these women closer together while also showing that their griefs are different.
Then there’s the Blue and Taylor of it all. That was also grounded in misunderstandings and letting go. But it was a misunderstanding based on a lack of communication. And while a lot of fans really love Blue and Taylor together and have seen a spark from them from the start, I don’t like it. And it’s not because I don’t like shipping and because I have something against Blue and Taylor being together.
My problem with Blue and Taylor being together is that it does a disservice to both of these characters. Blue continues to be painted as a bumbling fool, and that carries on into whatever feelings he has for Taylor as he tried to avoid an HR violation. And it just does nothing to make his character more interesting or lovable. As for Taylor, what do I know about her? Besides her being a firefighter, having a great voice, and having a face card that has never been declined. Also that she’s friends with Roxy.
I need to know more about Taylor and I would love it if it wasn’t just based on what romantic relationship she’s finding herself in now. And that frustration leads from the fact that 9-1-1: Nashville sold itself as being a show based in one of America’s most diverse cities, and then I barely know anything about any of its only POC characters. And for anyone who says, “Oh it’s just a TV show.” This TV show sold me on an idea to get me to watch and then it didn’t deliver on it. So I will call out 9-1-1: Nashville once again in “Let It R.I.P.” for leaving its POC characters behind.

- As for that tuna casserole, why do they keep making Blue the bumbling fool of the show?
- I’m bored.
- But also, he put effort into that tuna casserole. The least you can do is try it.

- Opppp that was rude of you Don. Roxie was just trying to help.
