If there is anything that I am going to ask of verticals is that they come up with better titles for their series. When My Ex Becomes My Gynecologist, not a good name. It’s actually pretty much the worst name I have heard all day. But here we are and some people think that having the worst titles known to mankind is a flex. It’s not.
It’s an annoyance.
Then again, I still watch them, so I can’t say it is all that bad. When My Ex Becomes My Gynecologist gives new meaning to the reason why it is that you shouldn’t be treated by someone you know. It all sets up like a bad porno and then a comedy between two men trying to having a my d**ks bigger contest.
In this series, “Grace’s most vulnerable moment becomes her greatest shock when she looks up from the examination table into the eyes of her ex-fiancé, Blade. Five years ago, she walked away from him without a word, believing it was for the best.”
Now why she didn’t exit the room and be like nope, ain’t doing this, I don’t know. However, we all do things that we shouldn’t and hindsight is 20/20. It has to be awkward AF for your gyno to be your ex. Eric Guilmette is hot though and plays a doctor well. Though regardless of a past relationship, if my doctor was that hot, I would run.
The truth is I turned on this series because I was intrigued by what the hell it could actually be about. But hey, it does ring true, Graces ex is her gyno. It does get all sorts of weird though because of their relationship. He wants to know why she left (of course) and he wants to hang onto her at the same time.
Now, there are a lot of reasons that this vertical had me watching through my t-shirt, but more because I was laughing and also I felt bad for the characters. I laughed when her stepbrother and ex were facing off for her attention. Grace, girl – you have hot men fighting over you.
If you watch verticals you know Cayla Brady. Typically the roles that she takes on are ones of innocence and her getting her heart broken. This one is no different. I hate that her characters always feel like or portray themselves as a victim. This character is different – more mature, but also more well rounded.
The thing that is the worst about this series is the character of Sophie, played by Daria Harnaha. In any vertical there are some bad actors that you just have to believe paid to be in these and I really thought this had to be the reason she’s in it. I know that that she’s got a long resume, every time she was on the screen – I thought of banging my head into a wall. Her characters are annoying.
There is the whole will they or won’t they, stepbrother in love with his stepsister, and second chance at love thing going on here. Also the psycho who thinks that they are the fiance. Lots of tropes and lots of misunderstandings. There is a lot of desperation and well, that leads to not knowing what to do.
And you know there is a pregnancy up in the mix. Doesn’t anyone use contraception? Come on now people. It’s not that hard. I assure you that there will be a size that fits.
While we’re coming to the end, there has to be a moment where the main character has to go through a kidnapping or something. For Grace, she’s forced to say a lot of lies in front of the engagement party. The villains voices are really loud and that is normal. Loud is heard first – I guess. Her brother and Blade are there to step in and protect her.
Not something unexpected there.
When My Ex Becomes My Gynecologist was good. At times somewhat comical, but overall good. It’s like a beach read book, set up to sound like a really bad porno, but it is not that. Good old PG stuff going on here, along with a reminder to see your gynecologist regularly.
