Sometimes I have to laugh at the titles of vertical series, because they don’t fit, but they also sound like we’re going to be watching someone into the red room (IYKYK). The whole ‘dominate me’ in this title had me laughing, because it doesn’t fit. It’s misleading. Dominate Me Please, Mafia King was more about obsessive love, violence, and well… a mafia war.
Sex, yes, it was there. But it wasn’t the big part of the story. The big part of the story was lies turning to obsession turning to danger. Sometimes it made me want to scream at the phone and tell Reese to not be an idiot. Sometimes it made me be like girl, I get it, I woulda stayed too.
Reese is an ordinary waitress whose life shatters the night she crosses paths with Finn Salvatore—the most feared Mafia King in the city. One reckless lie binds her to his dangerous world, turning her into both his hostage and his obsession. As gang wars erupt and enemies close in, Reese must survive a man who rules with violence but protects her at all costs. Desire clashes with fear, love battles bloodshed, and every choice comes at a deadly price. In a world where loyalty is lethal, falling in love may be the most dangerous move of all.
Rosa Singerman and Franky Cammarata have great onscreen chemistry. The two are strong playing against each other. Though Cammarata hasn’t done many verticals, I would like to see him play more outside the mafia trope, because he is capable of more. Singerman has done quite a few, this being her second with Cammarata. I hope that there are many more with the two of them.
Reese doesn’t want anything to do with the mafia, but she’s sold off to Finn Salvatore for a cool million dollars. Reese agrees to go only if Finn offs her stepfather and well, you don’t have to ask him twice. Her Mom may have asked her to consider and sold her off easily, but I don’t think that being sold off to the head of the mafia was on Reese’s bingo card.
She wasn’t going to be anyones possession. Reese was tired of being taken advantage of in her life, but I did love and admire the way she was going to protect her Mom.
Her Mom was willing to let her go, but Finn’s Dad wasn’t happy about her arrival. He wants to marry his son off to the daughter of another mafia family. He’s telling him that he needs to marry Catarina Santorini to cement their families future. His Dad even goes as far as to drug him for Catarina.
Can’t even trust ones father. No wonder Finn is on edge. But, she does sleep with him and then he calls her a toy to Catarina. I woulda slapped the crap out of him too. Have to give her props though – she is going to get out of there if it’s the last thing she does. Doesn’t matter what Finn says – she’s going to challenge him at every turn. I couldn’t stop laughing as she continues to try to break free and he disarms her.
Every misunderstanding these two come up against – they challenge each other. He’s not used to anyone challenging him, but I do think that he kinda really enjoys that she’s not afraid of him. He tells her over and over again that he’s going to marry her and she thinks he’s lost it.
The rules he’s set forth – do what I say, wear what I tell you, and don’t try to escape – she’s going to ignore. When he tries to tell her what to wear to a party, she wears something he won’t like. She tries to make him jealous, which finds her starting a war between families.
Even when these two are fighting, their banter has me laughing. I do have to wonder what it is though, that at these parties, there are always people talking crap and the main characters overhearing. Especially in mafia households. I also have to understand why the creepy dude always thinks that they can hurt a woman.
While we go through most of the episodes with the war going on – you can actually see Finn and Reese falling in love, falling apart, and the way that they would challenge anyone for each other. He doesn’t care what anyone says – she is going to stay safe.
Though, as many times as he promises he’ll keep her safe and then can’t – it is a lot. But each and every time she only loves him more. That man takes swing after swing at him and he deals with it, because he loves her.
When it gets to be too hard to keep her safe and he has her taken to a safe house, it was a lot for her. She felt he was letting go of her, but she didn’t want him to. She was in love. Catarina and the Vipers start to work together to take them out, but Finn and Reese get the final word.
I can’t stress enough how much I love the chemistry between Rosa Singerman and Franky Cammarata. Dominate Me Please, Mafia King is one of the better mafia verticals I have watched.
Quick side note – Finns accent is killing me. It’s like a mix of southern gentleman mixed with Italian and a touch of the northeast. It’s all over the place. I’m gonna feel bad if that’s his real accent.
