The Traitors Season 4 Episode 8 “A Queen Never Comes Off Her Throne” was an unexpected episode after the events of “The Black Banquet.” And we’re still shocked!
Basically [MAJOR SPOILERS] Candiace is gone. Last we left off she was confronting Rob after the elimination of Lisa. She kept her calm and poised nature as Rob tried to explain himself. And when it came to murder someone or bring on a new traitor, she chose murder. That leads to plot twist number 2. Colton is also gone.
What followed is Candiace and Rob plotting against each other throughout “A Queen Never Comes Off Her Throne.” But no matter what Candiace did, her time was up as suspicion had fallen on her after Colton’s comments, Rob’s manipulations, and her vote in “The Black Banquet.” But not to worry. With Candiace gone, a new traitor is here. Well, if accepts his role.

1. Ultimately, what was the final nail in Candiace’s coffin on The Traitors?

Lyra: The final nail in the coffin for Candiace was eliminating Colton. She could’ve maneuvered her way around the “throwaway vote” for Rob if she wanted to. Instead, she focused on painting Rob as the traitor everyone should keep an eye on. And it put too much heat on her. She should’ve laid low. Or she should’ve not voted for Rob last week in the first place. Because that was truly the spark that made people think that she was a traitor after such a delicious game she was playing.
Lizzie: That she voted for Rob last week. Her ‘throwaway’ vote came back to bite her, because when she went hard at Rob this week, it felt personal. She shouldn’t have voted for Rob last week. Or, once that mistake was made, she should have smiled through the betrayal and pretended to work with Rob, which is what she said she was gonna do. She didn’t convince him, so he turned on her. And he was always on safer ground than she was. Going after Rob now was a mistake, and it was the thing that did her in.
2. Rob said Candiace was taking this personal and that it’s just a game. Agree or disagree?

Lyra: I’d like to invoke the words of Lashauwn Beyond on RuPaul’s Drag Race. “This isn’t RuPaul’s Best Friend Race.” Same thing applies to The Traitors. The purpose of this show is right there in the name. And I get being in your feelings after Lisa’s elimination last week and one of your own participating. But this is a game of deception and lies. And Lisa was too hot to defend. I would’ve done the same thing.
If anything, I wish that cool, calm, and collected Candiace in the turret would’ve remained throughout this episode. That Candiace was about playing the game and keeping an eye on Rob. And she would’ve made it to the end. But the Candiace that I saw afterward when she called Rob a “snake,” that was her moving through this game based on feeling slighted.
Lizzie: Agree. I think this is obviously a show where they’re told to play it up, so a lot of the drama is part of the game. That being said, I think Candiace was actually upset Rob turned on Lisa, even though that was probably his best bet for the game. So she reacted emotionally. And as I said before, that was her fatal mistake. I think this is a game and if she’d taken what Rob did as just part of the game and treated it all like a game she could win, she had a good shot. She treated it like friendships were more important, and like there’s honor in a game like Traitors, which there’s not. That’s why she lost.
3. Eric has been chosen to join Rob as a traitor. Should he accept?

Lyra: HE SHOULD JOIN! Will he? I don’t know. He put a lot of emphasis on being a faithful as he was walking down to Rob. But maybe being a traitor will allow us to explore different sides of Eric. Because right now I feel like I know nothing about him besides that he was friends with Colton and he’s pretty. And him and Rob would be a duo that no one would suspect.
Lizzie: Absolutely. No one suspects Rob. No one’s going to suspect Eric. They’d be in such a good place going forward, and I think they’d actually make a pretty good team. It’d be silly to be like, no, I’m faithful, murder me. And I don’t think Eric is silly.
4. Is Rob a villain or not?

Lyra: No. Rob isn’t a villain. He’s just doing what this game expected of him. And it’s really shocking seeing him play this game so well after everything I heard about his time on Love Island USA. In this episode he stayed calm, moved the pieces needed on his 3D chess board, and even threw a Mark Twain quote down. Is he not so secretly smart and used Love Island USA as a jumping off point to be famous and then The Traitors to reinvent himself? What a messy icon.
Lizzie: I don’t think so, I think he’s playing a game. I don’t think he’s done anything maliciously. And he isn’t being vindictive. He’s just putting himself in the best place to win. I respect that. I know Lisa and Candiace probably don’t, but all things considered, the fact that he voted against both and they were Traitors? That protects him. The dagger protects him. Eric would protect him. He’s played a great game, and it looks like he might come out on top. If people want to hate him for it, I don’t think he’d mind.
5. Give me your top 3 that you think will make it to the finale?

Lyra: Rob for sure. He’s gotten this far in the game. As for the other two spots, I’m hoping Natalie and Maura make it too. Natalie has shown a lot of her strengths so far but there’s definitely more underneath. And Maura, she was just a delight to watch this episode during the challenge. I’d like to learn more about her too.
Lizzie: Hmmm, I think Rob, for sure. The rest gets tricky, because there’s less people, so the chances they stumble upon a traitor are greater. I think maybe Maura, who is flying under the radar. And Mark. Everyone likes Mark.
