The Rookie: North pilot is taking shape! As Deadline reports, Chris Sullivan – who we will never forget how he made us cry on This Is Us – joined the project and we are celebrating! We like that more and more well-known faces and talented actors are becoming part of this pilot. Let’s review who they and their characters are.
The Cast
The Lead
At the moment, there are a few confirmed cast members. Jay Ellis will play the lead, Alex Holland. The show’s synopsis describes him as a middle-aged guy who becomes the oldest rookie cop.
Specifically, it indicates that “Alex Holland believed his mid-life wasn’t worthy of a crisis. But after a violent home invasion ignites a dormant purpose, Alex battles a lifetime of failed commitments by joining the Pierce County Police Department as its oldest rookie. Policing from the urban coast to the rural forest where backup isn’t just 5 minutes away, Alex must prove to his skeptical training officer, his fellow rookies, and himself that he’s finally found something worthy of the fight.”
The Series Regulars
Chris Sullivan, for his part, will co-star and play Sergeant Nix, described as “a recently promoted Watch Commander whose heart still wants to be out on the street.” If the project is picked up to series, Sullivan’s role will be a series regular.
As Deadline reports, five new actors have joined the cast as series regulars! They are Froy Gutierrez, Janet Montgomery, Karen Fukuhara, Mya Lowe, and newcomer Malik Watson. And these are its characters.
Janet Montgomery will play Charlotte Dru, Alex’s training officer. It described as “a former MP-turned-Pierce County Police Officer, Charlotte is precise, disciplined and calm under pressure with a subversive sense of humor.
Mya Lowe will be Elora Howe, “a new rookie chasing a recently discovered purpose, like an oasis in the desert, hoping desperately that it’s not a mirage.”
Malik Watson as Mark Lewis, Elora’s training officer. Mark is “a cowboy, all sharp edges, but he’s the backup every cop hopes shows up when they’re in danger.”
Froy Gutierrez will play Odell Chance, a new rookie. It described as “cool, athletic and confident, things have always come easy to him. He aced everything he’s tried in life, including the police academy. But he’s never been truly tested.”
Karen Fukuhara as Leah Mizuno, Odell’s training officer. Leah “comes from the high expectations of overachievers, where becoming a cop did not go over well. But unlike most youthful acts of rebellion, she loves what she does.”
What We Can Expect
Frankly, we were a little worried that the premise of the show would be too similar to The Rookie but Alexi Hawley, executive producer of the show, made it clear to Deadline that “the character that Jay plays, is a guy who never really found something he’s passionate about before this. And part of that has to do with a tragedy in his past, which we get into a little bit. So that was a little bit of a different way in; it is a guy who’s a little more lost.”
So that reassures us a lot and we can’t wait to discover more about the show and its cast!
