Sheriff Country Season 1, Episode 10 ‘Crucible: Part Two’ picked up from the ‘Crucible: Part One’ cliffhanger, and by the end of the hour, we’re left feeling closer to the team than ever before. Filled with action, worry over Travis’s well-being, and some of our favorite moments ever between characters, this episode was undoubtedly our favorite yet. Because this team is a family, and we got to see just how far they’d go to protect each other from harm. ‘Crucible: Part Two’ was a true life-or-death situation for the team where every choice mattered.
This hour gave us Mickey, Boone, and Cassidy at the forefront of the Barlow attacks on the Sheriff’s department. No help was coming, and they had to depend on each other to come up with a plan to get out of their building alive. Stakes were high as were the emotions, and we’re left grateful that we didn’t lose anybody in the end.
While our favorite trio stood tall together in the end, they all had their moments to shine as individuals. Boone and Cassidy held their own in this episode. Showing us just how strong and admirable they are as cops trained to do what is right. Mickey proves once again just how much of a pillar of unity and strength she is for her community. Even when people like the Barlows are against her and shooting at her.
Sheriff Country Season 1, Episode 10 ‘Crucible: Part Two’ shows us just how strong Mickey’s relationships are with her team when the chips are down. And finally puts an end to wondering if Travis and Mickey will reconcile.

“I’m Here.”

The episode delivers on making Mickey, Boone, and Cassidy feel like a family with a history that’s shaped them to trust each other. Previously, we’ve seen how close they are in moments where Boone brings Mickey her favorite donut or in how much Mickey trusts Cassidy to lead the department when she’s gone. And while their bond has been undeniable, we saw their on-screen friendship shift in a powerful way in ‘Crucible: Part Two’. There was a level of devotion and loyalty between them that we hadn’t really seen before.
Boone had talked Mickey down from having an anxiety attack when Barlow’s men were about to break into the department. He was comforting in pulling Mickey from her worries with a reminder that he was there with her to face the danger that lay ahead. When it came time for Boone to worry over not seeing his wife Nora again, Mickey was there for him as well.
Another sentiment is also made clear by the end of the hour. Boone and Mickey are partners built to withstand anything that comes their way. If he’s beside her in danger, the same goes for vice versa; they’re going to make it out the other side. In defying the FBI’s orders to follow Mickey’s, we also saw just how quickly Boone fell behind in trusting her leadership. There was no question. He would be her backup with a heavy-duty shotgun and unwavering faith in her directions.
Which was also new, and heartfelt, because we know he’s struggled with not having a higher title as deputy. But we have a feeling he doesn’t mind it anymore. Just as long as he gets to work alongside Mickey, whom he will now defend in front of anyone who doubts her.
Cassidy Can Hold Her Own

Cassidy and Travis were never going to work out. Not with Mickey’s shadow as his ex and her friend looming over them. So, it’s Cassidy’s self-awareness of that failed relationship and doing what’s right that stands out in ‘Crucible: Part Two’. She and Travis weren’t meant to be, but he’s still someone she cares about deeply. This showed in crucial moments where Cassidy went off on her own into danger to look for first aid to save his life. Or when she trusted Enoch with the knife to puncture Travis’s stomach when he stopped breathing. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Travis is alive because of Cassidy.
She may not have been fighting the Barlows directly like Mickey or Boone were in “Crucible: Part Two’. But she was always there when people needed her to be, as if she were a knight in shining armor.
Whether it was when she found two civilians hiding and offered them her gun to protect themselves. Or when she became Mickey’s backup when Boone tried to turn the radios back on. Cassidy was relentless in making sure nobody would die under her watch. We know she’s usually the tame counterpart to Mickey’s commanding attitude, but we wouldn’t mind seeing more of Cassidy’s leadership or stubbornness. Because her passion for saving lives and protecting people is raw and feels real.

Mickey and Travis Are Trying Again
Don’t get us wrong, we know Mickey and Travis need to talk about what rekindling a relationship actually looks like. However, seeing Mickey kiss him after they both survived the night was so sweet that we couldn’t be mad. They just survived something traumatic, so we’ll let them be. Travis had told Mickey that morning to think about giving them a second chance after confessing his love. And her kiss was his answer in Sheriff Country Season 1, Episode 10 ‘Crucible: Part Two’.
They were giving their marriage a second chance. Truthfully, we’re glad the will-they-won’t-they is temporarily resolved. Sure, they still need to talk, but the truth is on the table. Mickey is finally being honest with herself in wanting to be with Travis again. The kiss was an example of how she’s growing past old habits of isolating herself when joy is within her grasp.
Overall, the risk of losing him was Mickey’s motivation to shut down the Barlow attack as fast as possible. She wasn’t going to lose him or anyone she cared about. Not like this in an ambush. That was what she believed, and eventually, her fear turned into a fierce protectiveness. In talking down Barlow’s grandson from shooting her, Mickey reminded everyone in the room that family is what grounds everyone when it matters.
Sheriff Country airs on Fridays at 8 pm EST on CBS.
I like Mickey and Travis but the chemistry/connection between Mickey and Boone is something.
