You know that we love Cameron Porras and think that he’s a great actor. We watch all his verticals and you can also hear him on Quinn reading some schmexy stuff. The actors most recent vertical is Vicious and well, let us just say that it is a lot.
Like a lot. A lot of making out, a lot of sexual innuendos, a lot of heavy breathing and a lot of verbal abuse.
The jist is easy, “After Vicious bullies Emilia out of town, he reappears years later with an offer she can’t refuse: A job that could keep her afloat.”
But here we are and we all know that nothing is as easy as one sentence. Vicious is complicated – a boy in high school emotionally tortures a girl who happens to be his families maid. He is rude and self serving. He doesn’t like the fact that she seems to hate him and saw him getting abused by his father.
As she starts to make a life for herself in highschool, he becomes more and more angry and frustrated. As his best friend offers her up to him (after he’s done cause he’s an a**), Vicious decides that she needs to be sent away. So he tells her that she needs to leave or he’ll fire her Mom. So Emilia leaves.
And 10 years later, she runs into him again.
He’s not forgotten her and ends up getting her fired and has her come to work for him. Vicious is a billionaire – of course. She doesn’t like the job, but her and Vicious play a game of cat and mouse. He’s trying to have sex with her at every turn and she’s trying to resist. The two have a lot of heavy petting and kissing going on.
With every scene she’s in, Emilia sounds like she’s ran a marathon and is out of breathe. She’s consistently breathing heavy and I am wondering if someone needs to get her an inhaler. It seems like she needs one.
The two finally give into each other and lets just say that his fingers are really busy. Like really busy and he might wanna scrub under his nails too.
He makes amends as well as he can for all the things that he’s done – as best he can. His psycho father doesn’t like that and tries over and over again to harm Emilia. Vicious fights everyone that tries to hurt her. He gives no f***s about the trouble that he can get in. All that matters to him is Emilia.
When he stands her up on Christmas Eve, she’s had enough. When she finds out that his father had a heart attack, she runs to his side to find him with her old rival. This leads her to letting go and quitting her job.
Don’t worry, the two find their way back to each other. We’re not sure of what happens to them after they make their way back to New York, they seem to find a way to balance his darkness and her light.
Now, let us just say that Vicious is honestly the biggest jerk and we notice that from the beginning. What we also notice is that he’s trying to change and that even though he’s a tortured soul, he wants to find a way to be able to deal with his pain. His pain overwhelms him and he’s used to living in his anger. Changing from that is a scary experience – one that leaves you vulnerable and also leaves you strong.
Vicious didn’t realize he was finding his strength.
Cameron Porras portrays Vicious and he is downright scary. The way that he brings Vicious to life is so different than any other role he’s done. Well at least that we’ve seen him in. He’s sometimes downright scary and intimidating, and well, Vicious has no idea about personal space. Porras makes you care about what Vicious is going through and as a viewer you want to fix him. You want to help him. How Porras gets us to invest in a character that we are supposed to hate, is a testament to his prowess as an actor.
While I would love to tell you that I loved Jenna Gilmer, I didn’t. And I didn’t for one reason – the actress is too breathy. Like every word and action sounds like she is in need of an inhaler or maybe is in a permanent state of being turned on. I truly have no idea. I just know that I twitched and wanted it to end.
Vicious is a dark love story – one filled with toxicity and craziness. It is a cautionary tale in what not to do in a relationship and how to not treat people.
Overall, worth the watch. Just be prepared for a lot of heavy breathing.
