Chicago Fire Season 14, Episode 17 ‘Sway’ feels like the first time where the budget cuts are really going to not just be noticeable in the sense of ‘there’s literally no one working in this firehouse’, but in the ‘plot-wise, it makes no sense that so and so is gone this episode’ kinda way. Because why is Severide nowhere to be found after an entire episode about how he should be the one stepping up at Firehouse 51?
And meanwhile, another Chief no one asked for is still here, causing more or less the same problems, but worse, because this time it is personal. Joy of joys!
Look, the Hopkins thing was more or less okay as a setup for Severide deciding he wanted something we have never really seen him yearn for. But with only four episodes to go after this one, we need to get to other stuff, like ‘are Stella and Kelly ever going to grow their family?’. So, please, let’s wrap this up sooner rather than later.
