Corrupting My Billionaire Boss’s Heart was definitely not what I thought it would be. I figured that it would the normal boss has sex with his secretary type of show. Corrupting My Billionaire Boss’s Heart features Hannah Lowery as Lyla and Rhett Wellington as Royce. I’ve watched enough of Wellington’s verticals to know that they are always really sexy. It’s not to say that this one isn’t – it’s just different.
And I am not talking different in a bad way.
When Lyla Walker starts working at the world’s most elite country club, she unwittingly brings chaos and temptation to her buttoned-up billionaire CEO Royce Kennedy. She’s ready to risk everything for their forbidden relationship, unaware of the promise he made to her dying father.
Hannah Lowery’s character of Lyla doesn’t have the easiest life. It’s just her and her Dad. She’s grown up at the Kennedy’s country club and knows it like the back of her hand. Because of her father she has an interview to become a cart girl.
Lyla is a character that I do not feel like I have ever see Lowery play and I love that she keeps growing. She’s fearless, blunt, and does not care what people think of her. She has no filter – even walking into the club talking about flavored condoms and even pulling a vibrator out of her bag – inside the club.
It doesn’t seem to really phase her when that vibrator goes flying through the air and lands at Royce Kennedy’s feet.
She’s had a crush on Royce for as long as she can remember. She didn’t think that she’d be running into him, but he was back from Europe. Lyla was embarrassed but also didn’t want to show it. Royce knows that Lyla is a loose cannon but that doesn’t stop him from hiring her.
Royce is a man that knows he’s privileged. He doesn’t understand Lyla but that doesn’t mean that he won’t keep trying to. He wants her and wants to protect her. Royce confuses me because he doesn’t want to show that he needs and wants her, as he promised her Dad he’d keep her from his world.
Though I am fully aware that rich people may act different, I don’t like the stereotypes that verticals play off of a lot. I think that we need to realize that just because you are rich or poor doesn’t mean that you act a certain way. Yes, Royce’s friends were trash and they definitely treated Lyla like less than – but I am not sure why except for jealousy.
There is also a lot of girl on girl violence here.
Royce’s friend Victoria, his stepmom Janice – they are all about trying to bring Royce down and that means hurting Lyla. It doesn’t matter how happy she makes Royce, she is looked down on. Royce doesn’t want to keep hiding her, but he’s sure that it’s for her protection.
There is a big game of will they/won’t they – because these two are afraid of what others think. How would their worlds fit together? Would they be able to find a common ground? The drama between the two fits for a vertical and it’s a learning lesson that not everything needs to be so difficult.
You see, these two find their way to be together, no matter what. Happy endings are a thing. What I don’t like though is the open ending – because unless I get a sequel – that’s some BS. The story is different, yet the same. But also at the end of the day, Lowery and Wellington are able to portray their characters in such a fresh way that you can’t help but respect their acting.
Corrupting My Billionaire Boss’s Heart wasn’t anything extraordinary or out of the ordinary, but that is something that is definitely okay. What it was – it was a story of attraction that two souls couldn’t fight, a story of fate taking control, and a family that had to learn the meaning of the word family.
Overall I have to admit that I loved it admit that I loved it and would totally watch again.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Lyla’s Dad checking up on her – I love that he does, but he’s gotta trust her to be an adult
- Royces stepmom is the worst
- The money that all these people must have to throw galas – impressive
- Whats that you say family – you wanna send me to Europe to work? Don’t threaten me with a good time
- When the dildo lands on the ground – does it qualify under the five second rule
- Jealousy sure brings out the worst in people
