If you are like us, you’re stuck in your Off Campus era for the foreseeable future (years). The show is on repeat, and we’re torn between Garrett Graham and Dean DiLaurentis – because hey, casting is perfection and we do love them both.
We’re a little confused as to why people are making a big deal over some ages of the cast – particularly the age difference between Belmont Cameli and Ella Bright. The two play Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells in the hit Prime Video show.
For those of you who don’t know, Ella is 19, and Belmont is 28. Yes, it’s an age difference. But at the time of the show’s filming, Ella had just turned 18, which contributed to the reaction from the court of public opinion.
Recently, Ella was on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast and addressed the concerns.
“Listen, I came into this job and during the chemistry reads with more than enough information and knowledge and understanding of what this role required,” she said on the podcast. “I just fell in love with Hannah and these scripts immediately. Like, there was never a question that I wouldn’t want to do this.”
She then added, “I get people’s concern, but also not once did I feel left out from being younger than everybody. We’re all such a family, and everyone was just more than perfect, and I couldn’t be more comfortable on this set with these people.”
Before filming, series creator Louise Levy made sure to let the actors know what she wanted and was going to need from them, so that they all knew what they were getting into. When it came to the subject of nudity, Ella addressed what Levy had envisioned for Hannah and Allie.
“Her idea was that for Hannah, the briefing was like partial nudity, and for Allie [Mika Abdalla] it had to be full, just because Allie, she’s got this amazing confidence about her, and she is so free with her body,” Bright said. “And sex is just such an important part of her life. It is honestly just showing the difference between these characters.”
Off Campus is a college-set romantic drama chronicling the unexpected love story between a music student and the university’s star hockey player, exploring themes of love and the complexities of adulthood through deep friendships and enduring bonds. The series is based on the books by Elle Kennedy.
