Netflix’s Devil May Cry is coming back for a Season 3! But with a twist.
After Season 2 debuted on May 12, 2026, it entered the Netflix’s Global Top 10 List. And it tackled Dante’s reunion with his brother Vergil, both of them being pawns for the human and demon worlds. By the end of the season we were left wanting for more as Vergil cemented his reign over Makai and Dante was thrust back into the human world.

On Thursday, June 4th Netflix announced that Devil May Cry is coming back for Season 3. But, the twist is that it’s the final season. Showrunner Adi Shankar teased that this has been the plan for a bit, with him referring to Dante’s Divine Comedy as a guiding inspiration. He said:
“For those of you who have been paying attention to the episode names, I have been showing you the structure the entire time. This was always Dante’s Divine Comedy with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was Inferno. Season 2 was Purgatorio. And Season 3 will be Paradiso. These three seasons make up “The Force Edge Saga.” Since inception, “The Force Edge Saga” was designed as a movie trilogy disguised as a television series.”

For fans of Devil May Cry, like myself, this news hits hard but it makes sense. Dante’s journey is has been one of loneliness in Season 1. And then confronting his past in Season 2. Season 3 can be the one where he finds his path or decides who wants to be now that he knows everything. Oh also and maybe reunites with Lady to honestly give it a chance.
Also, who knows if we’ll get more of Devil May Cry in the future. Because if Shankar thought it as part of a saga, maybe they have another idea in mind that can expand on this world and the vast amount of lore culminated over the years. Until then, it’s advantageous to tell a concise story instead of dragging out this arc of Dante’s journey like other long running shows do…
Devil May Cry Seasons 1 and 2 are on Netflix.
